PAGE I2 : : TERRACE BAY NEWS NOVEMBER 7,1973 Bi: of Minimum Wage - continued ae nies Mr. Guindon said the purpose of the minimum wage was to give workers whose bargaining power is limited a measure of protection against exploitation. He said the minimum wage would be continually under review and if circumstances so warranted, he would have no hesitation in recommending further increased in the minimum wage. - Mr. Guindon also proposed amendments to The Employment Standards Act on statutory holidays, annual vacations and premium pay for overtime. The amendments will require that all em- ployees will receive four statutory holidays with pay -- Good Friday, Dominion Day, Labour Day and Christmas Day -- in I974. This pro- vision will be extended to include New Year's Day, Thanksgiving Day and Victoria Day as holidays with pay on January I, I975. Effective January I, I974, all employees will be entitled to two weeks annual vacation with pay after one year of employment. At the present time, an employee receives one week vacation 'after the first year and two weeks vacation after two years employment. Beginning January I, 1975, a premium rate of I-I/2 times regular rate will be required for all hours worked in excess of 44 hours per week. Previously overtime rates were requir- ed after 48 hours per week. PRENATAL CLASSES Pre-Natal Classes will be held for parents expecting babies from now un- til Apnil Jo974. Wednesday, November 7th ) 7 to 8 p.m. = Pub- lic Skating, IO years of age and under (par- ents permitted to accompany their childfen) Friday, November 9th ) - 8 to 9 p.m. - Children II years of age and over, as well as adults. This change is being made to reduce the amount of people on the ice at one time and thereby reduce the amount of horseplay and disorderly conduct. It was our hope that the majority of people would conduct themselves properly at Public Skating sessions; however, it is obvious to note that during last week's sessions not too many people are willing to co-operate. This change in Public Skating sessions will remain until such time that the attendance is greatly reduced. Then and only then will we be able to consider open Public Skating sessions for the public. FROM HERE ON IN, REMEMBER THAT THE FIRST HALF OF ANY PUBLIC SKATING SESSION IS AVAIL- ABLE TO THOSE IO YEARS OF AGE AND UNDER (PAR- ENTS PERMITTED TO ACCOMPANY THEIR CHILDREN) AND THE LAST HALF OF ANY PUBLIC SKATING SESSIONS IS AVAILABLE TO THOSE II YEARS OF AGE AND OVER. JUNIOR BADMINTON PROGRAMME : Forms have been circulated through the schools and anyone interested in joining the Junior Badminton programme must fill out their registration form and return it along with their registration fee of $I.00 to the Recreation Office by Friday, November 9th. Sessions will be held at the Terrace Bay Campus auditorium beginning this Saturday, November IOth. All players in this program- me must be Recreation members. For addition- al information, contact the Recreation Office at 3542. ARENA SCHEDULE: RECREATION NEWS PUBLIC SKATING SESSIONS: Due to the fact that a lot of people using the arena ice during Public Skating sessions are not really conducting themselves in a Prop- er manner, the following change will be made at all Public Skating sessions effective immedia- tely. For example, this change will have been introduced to the public at last night's Pub- lic Skating sessions, Tuesday, November 6th: Tuesday, November 6th ) 7 to 8 p.m. = Public Skating, IO years of age and under (parents permitted to accompany their children). - This week's edition of the Terrace Bay News will mark the first time that the arena schedule is publicized. It is important to point out that the arena schedule as posted in the paper is always subject to unavoidable change. Since the information must be sub- mitted by Monday noon of each week, there are times when changes must be made throughout the the remainder of the same week because of change in times of hockey games, ice shaves, etc. STRETCH EXERCISING AND POWER SKATING SCHOOL : The first set of off-ice sessions was held continued page I3 ..cv.... : ri
