Mrs. Ronald Lanigan glancing through some old News Chronicle papers of September I946 and Eaton Catalogues of the 1930s found in the attic of a house that they bought at the West end of the village near Sheehan's Bay. When remodelling the building her husband found that many of the walls had been covered with old newspapers. One paper "The Star" of 1898 was quite interesting. One news item described a big day in Quebec during the celebration of St. Jean Baptiste Day - had sales quoted at 25 cents for a package of tea, arm chairs at 79 and 90 cents each. The cat- alogues had overcoats at $9.95; waterpails at 71¢; Chiffon and Silk Crepe dresses at $4.95 to $6.95 each while men's grey flannel trous- ers were listed at $I.95 a pair. Other treas- urers of the attic were ladies high button shoes with spool heels and pointy toes, a lar- ge picture of a bewhiskered gentleman in an oval frame, articles which appeared to be made from casings of army shells, old seed books, the Pic Doc Savage, Hockey book, Liber=- ty, Look, books and a Winnipeg companies Novelty Catalogue. im a EC Sp ah Lb
