TERRACE BAY GIRLS VISIT ENGLAND Diane Jones and Isle Smith had an unexpect- ed pleasure awaiting them during their stay in England. Diane and Isle travelled by air from Thunder Bay, via Toronto, to Manchester England, where they were met by Diane's Grand- mother, Mrs. Harry Jones and some of the fam- ily, on July I4th. They were escorted to Abbey-Hulton which was to be their home base. After renewing acquaintances with friends and relatives in Abbey-Hulton, they travelled by bus, accompan- ied by Pam Jone's sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. J. Elms, to Bournemouth for a week. Here they visited with Pam's father, Mr. George Fairbairn. After returning to Abby-Hulton, Diane and Isle were invited to a camping expedition, guests of the English Girl Guides; at Cannock Wood. The host group were also entertaining Girl Guides from Belguim and Luxembourg. The English Girl Guides had visited Belgium at Easter time and were returning the honour. Diane and Isle enjoyed touring around with the Guides visiting such famous sites as Cov- entry Cathedral, Litchfield Cathedral and Chester Cathedral. They also enjoyed the : companionship of the girls from this interna- tional group. - After the camping trip was over, Diane and Isle were taken to Wales by Olga and Frank They returned to Abbey-Hulton, during which time, Pam Jone's father, Mr. Fairbairn passed away at Bournemouth. Diane and her cousin Pat attended the funeral there.
