JUNIOR GARDENERS SHOW IMPRESSIVE DISPLAY On Saturday, August 25, I973, I3 adults and I9 juniors braved the rain and fog to bring an impressive display of flowers and vegetables to ' the Terrace Bay Arena for judging by Mr. Walter Chomniak of Thunder Bay. It seems that it takes more than-a poor sum- mer to beat a green thumb and there are appar- ently a fair number of small green thumbs in town because the Junior Gardeners displayed some fine quality vegetables. In the spring the Junior Gardeners enrolled and were given seeds to plant in their own garden. Each month during the summer these gardens were inspected by a panel of judges who looked at the quality of produce, and over-all con- dition of the garden and care it was being giv- en. In the junior section Sabina Buhrmann came out on top followed by her brother Oswald Buhrmann, in 3rd place was Sylvia Landry. In the Senior section Bill Megraw, Jr. once again walked off with first prize followed by Lori McBride and Danny Moore. For their exhibits in the show Sylvia Lan- dry led the junior section followed by Sabina Buhrmann, Joan Hiebert, David McBride, Dean Roberts, Leslie McBride, Diane Malashewski, Cheryl Moore, Carol Moore and Joyce Kurylo. In the senior section, Oswald Buhrmann amassed the most points, followed by Bill Me- graw Jr., Denis Landry, Loris McBride, Paul Gerlach, Patti Regis and Danny Moore. The highest aggregate from either section was won by Sylvia Landry. Prize for the top girl went to Sylvia Lan- dry and for the top boy to Oswald Buhrmann.
