SPORTS SLANTS - By Ray Shank The fun (or the war,) whatever way you want to look at it is just starting! The National Hockey League, upon hearing that Cleveland Crusaders had signed junior- aged Tom Edur a few weeks ago, declared that it would no longer give its financial support to the CAHA. In a way, you can't blame the NHL. After all, it has been providing the CAHA with op- erating capital for many years, on the under- standing that it will hold an amateur draft each year and take its pick of the amateur 'graduates. The NHL, however, didn't sign players und- er 20 years of age. That was the agreement it had with the CAHA. For several years, a junior, no matter how super a player he was, was not allowed to jump into pro ranks until he turned 20. Early last week, word was received that the WHA had signed three more players of junior age - Wayne Dillion of the Memorial Cup champ- ion Toronto Marlboros to Toronto Toros, Jac- ques Locas, I8-year-old centre with Quebec Remparts to Quebec Nordiques, and Dennis Sobchuck of Regina Pats to Cincinnati Swords. The Swords, however, are not scheduled to join the WHA until the I975 season. Sobchuck, who has one year left of junior eligibility, however, is expected to play this season with Los Angeles Sharks and will then be turned over to the Swords the following season. chuck was the second leading scorer in the continued page 4 Sob- September.
