Plantt, Neys Park This summer hundreds of I7 year old boys and, for the first time, some I7 year old girls, came north to work in our forests and parks. They worked for five dollars a day plus free room and board. They also attended lectures given by representatives of various Ministries and were taken on guided tours. There are three Junior Ranger camps in the Terrace Bay District. They are located at Ramsay Lake, Rainbow Falls Provincial Park and Neys Provincial Park. The Ramsay Lake Junior Rangers worked at different forestry projects on the American Can Timber licence. This in- cluded tree planting, cone scattering, picking cones, seeding tree seed and also the cleaning of access points and canoe routes. The other two groups worked on our parks carrying out park maintenance of all types. Most Junior Rangers enjoyed the summer very much. They adapted quickly to their new en- vironment and learned to work and live with each other. During the summer there was a noticeable change in many of them, some mdtur- ed a great deal because of the new life they were brought into and being away from home for the first time. The experience helped them realize as individuals, what our renewable re- sources are all about. In conclusion, most Junior Rangers will find this summer a very meaningful one. They learned a good deal about living and working with each other. They gained a certain res- pect for and knowledge of our environment and found a peacefulness in the outdoors that many cannot experience in their normal daily lives. L.J. Haas, District Manager. ST.
