TERRACE BAY NEWS Yol. 16" No. 20 I5¢ Per Copy TERRACE BAY AGAIN RECEIVES O.F.Y. GRANT In I973, Opportunities for Youth, again invited the youth of Canada to participate with the government in serving their communit- ies. The participants were asked to work to- gether in small groups to initiate, plan, and implement creative and useful community ser- vice projects. These summer time projects should help the participants to support them- selves, finance their education and promote personal and social development. In addition to helping communities, the O.F.Y. program gives youth an opportunity to learn (through direct experience) how to work with other com- munity organizations, local resource people, and government departments. One such program, evaluated and accepted by the O.F.Y. branch, will be the implimen- tation of a craft room in the Terrace Bay Campus. Plans were made and are still being made for certain creative projects, activities and constructions. Among the many proposed will be sessions on rug hooking, weaving, batiking, dyeing, beading, candle making, recycling of found or previously used mater- ials and various other projects. The commun- ity, as a whole, will be invited to partici- pate and it is hoped that there will be not only personal achievement but also community interaction! We are also planning outdoor exhibits, puppet shows, paint-ins, sketching jaunts, and Monday night demonstrations made by com- munity residents. We would appreciate any "junk" material that is available, discarded or not in use. So, if possible, start saving your empty car- tons, bottles (wine preferably), material, continued page 8 SCHREIBER COUNCIL QUOTES Schreiber Town Council were concerned over the preliminary report given by the driver from Underwater Recovery Ltd. on the condition of the dam at Cooks Lake, which provides the town water supply and will consult with the C.P.R. on steps to be taken.
