DIANO CELEBRATES 80TH BIRTHDAY Dominic Diano's 80th birthday was cele- brated at a gala party held in his son Cosi- mo's home, attended by some sixty celations. Mr. Diano, who reluctantly retired from work at 73, came to Schreiber in I948 from Siderno Marina, Italy, followed by his wife and family in I950. Since then he has work- ed in the Costa Groceteria then became mail carrier for the post office and custodian of both the Separate School and Holy Angel's Church. One daughter remained in Italy when the family came to Canada but still in Schreiber are daughters Mrs. Sarah Figliomeni, Carmela (Mrs. Frank Veneziano), Stella (Mrs. Frank Speziale), Ida Rose (Mrs. Joe Speziale) and his son, Cosimo - his other son, Frank, is in Calgary. His twenty-five grandchildren are the delight of Mr. Diano's life and with the girls he trod many measures during the 'even- ing. Music for dancing was supplied by the amazing Commisso orchestra - Mario, 14, acc- ordionist and leader, Marc II, guitarist and Lennie 7, on traps. Mr. Diano was presented with a chesterfield suit by his family and by happy chance, his grandson, Peter Crupi arrived from Italy in time to add his mother's and his, contribution to this gift. The many other presents marking the occas- ion included cheques, handsome bottles of special liquers, fresh fruit and flowers. The occasion began with a dinner in Mr. and Mrs. Cosimo Diano's home and ended with a buffet lunch. Photo by I.
