PAGE I4 TERRACE BAY NEWS JANUARY 24, 1973 W.G.A: FURLONGER BURRIED IN SCHREIBER The funeral of the late W.G.A. (Bill) Furlonger, whose death occurred sudd- enly in his home on January IOth, was conducted on January I3th in St. John's Anglican Church in Schreiber, by Rev. Arthur Chabot of Marathon. The choir of the United Church assisted St. John's choir for the service, with Miss Wendy Weaver as organist. The hymns sung were "Breathe On Me Breath of God", and "The 0ld Rugged Cross". Honorary pall bearers were W.G. Gerow, W.T. Wallace, Cyril Sparkes, Albert Costa, Girolamo (Joe) Figliomeni and George Walsh. Active bearers were Barry Harper, Wayne Wilson, Russell Nesbitt, John Needham, Frank Commisso and Pat Bolan. Interment was in Schreiber cemetery. Mr. Furlonger's immediate survivors are his wife, the former Maybelle McGregor, one daugh- ter, Maybelle, Mrs. Del Weberg of Terrace Bay, two sons - L.A. (Laurie) Furlonger, Halifax and D'Arcy at home and seven grandchildren. Mr. Furlonger, who was in his 7I year, was born in Gateshead, England, coming to Schreiber in I9I0. In I%97 he retired after 33 years service with the C.P.R., being for many years local chairman of the public school board, and an officer of the local Credit Union. A life- long member of St. John's Anglican Church he had held several offices. McCuaig, Toronto; Mr. and Mrs. Bill Duncan, Avery Duncan, Thunder Bay; Mr. and Mrs. Chal McCuaig, Atikokan; among the many friends were Mrs. Annie West, Mrs. Frank Auger, John Needham, Tom McGrath, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Lidkea, Miss Lois Davis, Mr. and Mrs. N. Jolicoeur, and Bruce Gray, Thunder Bay; Rev. and Mrs. Arthur Chabot, Marathon; Mrs. John Santerre, Mr. and Mrs. Edward McAdam, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Phillips and others from Terrace Bay; Mr. and Mrs. C. Todesco, Mr. and Mrs. Mushquash and others from Rossport. SCHREIBER TOWN TOPICS * Mrs. Joyce Boyar, before she left Schreiber for a new home in Sudbury, was honoured at a farewell party hosted by Mrs. D.Q. Hamilton. On behalf of her friends Mrs. J.D. Bryson pre- sented Mrs. Boyar with a painting of a local scene done by Mrs. Alice Sparkes. Miss Cheryl Karns has returned to Toronto after visiting Joyce, Janice and Beverley Hamilton. Miss Janice Wiznuk has returned to Schreiber after visiting her parents in Sault Ste. Marie. Schreiber senior citizens held an organiza- tion meeting, adopting Chimo as the name of their new association. Officers elected were L.R. McCuaig, President; T.P. Whent, Ist-Vice- President; Clem Downey, 2nd Vice-President; Mrs. Katie Verdoni, Secretary; Mrs. Gertrude Boyd, Treasurer. The executive will meet to prepare by-laws for consideration of the club. Mrs. Ida Krause volunteered to head some fund- raising projects. Membership fees were set at one dollar for this year. Mrs. Lillian Mills was inducted as a member of the Schreiber Ladies Auxiliary to the Can- adian Legion, Branch I09 at their regular Jan- uary meeting, with Mrs. Barbara Ann McLaughlin presiding. Twenty three members attended. Mrs. Earline Johnson reported a membership of eighty-five. Mrs. Ethel Nesbitt reported the draw on New Year's eve was most successful and monthly draws are moving well. The Saturday kitchen sells well, and Mrs. Barbara Smart said the attendance at weekly bingos is increasing. Plans were made to prepare a buffet dinner for the men who will be curling in the zone bonspiel in Schreiber on January 20th. In fut- ure all picture cards received will be given to the Retarded Children's Association. A joint executive meeting will be requested with the Legion. Each member was asked to br- ing a tea towel to the February meeting to re- plenish the kitchen supplies. The local Legion and Auxiliary bonspiel was planned for February I6 and I7 with supper arrangements to be made by Mesdames Georgina Davis, Lilyan Christie, Brenda Harper, Gail Welbourne and Earline Johnson. With the increased membership and attendance at meetings it was agreed to put four hostesses on the lunch committee, who, for February will be Mesdames Margaret Spillane, Yvonne Webb, Gretchen Smith and Miss Wendy Weaver.
