JANUARY 24, I973 TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE II Sports Slantz = cont'd from page IO ..... Gilbert and Jean Ratelle of New York, Boston's Ken Hodge. No doubt they will be picked by coach Tom Johnson as reserves. Isn't it just like me? In the last column I took a crack at Henri Richard for not hav- ing scored a single goal since the start of the season. Just a couple of days after rap- ping the Montreal forward, he snaps out of his extended slump and scores two goals for the Habs. All I can say is, it was about time The village of Port Stanley claimed a new world marathon hockey record recently. Two village teams played for a total of 56 hours and 20 minutes, beating by I5 seconds the previous mark set by a couple of teams in Calgary last year. And guess what? The game would up in a 327-327 tie. Needless to say, both teams declined the suggestion to play sudden-death overtime to break the tie. You have to hand it to Derek Sanderson = he's shrewd. Word was that Philadelphia Blaz- ers of the World Hockey Association were go-= ing to pay him a cool million bucks and would part company, making null the I0-year $2.7 million contract Sanderson had signed with the club. That's quite a settlement. Sanderson gets $I million for playing five or six games and is free to negotiate with any team he pleases. Chances are he'll end up back with his former mates, Boston Bruins, will ask for a $125,000 contract and get it, and still wind up making close to the pot of loot he would have received in the WHA. You may not believe this, but it's true. I picked Miami Dolphins to win the Super Bowl and they did. Trouble was, I didn't have any bets, so didn't make any money. SCHREIBER KOOL-KATS Schreiber's Kool Kats, the snowmobile club, are having a good season despite the scarcity of snow in this area. Keith Scott is the new president, with Doug Reynolds as vice-president; Lorraine Huard, secretary and George Korman, treasurer. Ethel Nesbitt is the Schreiber membership chairman and 'glim' Dorman, the Terrace Bay membership chairman. * sharon Scott, Bev Roen and Dawn Dietrich are the phoning committee. sharon and Bev, with Karen McBride are the kitchen committee. The club's largest acquisition is their long-wanted clubhouse, a camp at Walker Lake. Improvements are needed on the building but the chief hack now is furnishings=-chairs, tables, and the public is asked to call with any donation they might have and the articles will be gladly picked up. Meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month and each month a full calen- dar of events is planned. Still to be enjoy- ed this month are the Kid's Day on January 27th and Ladies night on January 3Ist. The latest trail-riding incident, occas- ioning much laughter for both victim and willing helpers, occurred when a new member got 'treed' the snowmobile getting stuck be- tween two trees requiring both pushing and pulling to extricate it.
