INTERVIEW WITH HAROLD McPARLAND CANDIDATE FOR REEVE At 52 years of age, Mr. McParland is interested in Political and Municipal affairs. He has been on the executive of minor hockey for six years, member of the former High School Board seven years; finishing eight years on Town Council; was on the Thunder Bay District Health Board for three years; and is on his 4th year as a member of the Thunder Bay Children's Aid Society Board. Mr. McParland will impress upon the new council the value and importance of working for what they believe to be in the best interest of our citizens. MRS. ROLAND GAUTHIER BURRIED IN SCHREIBER The funeral of the late Mrs. Roland Gauthier, of Crofton, B. C. whose death occurred suddenly in Nanaimo, B. C. on November 9, was conducted in Schreiber United Church on November 14 by the Rev. Peter McKague. Mrs. Kevin O'Brien was organist. Pall bearers were John Paul Gauthier, Aurel Gauthier, Gabriel Gauthier (all brothers-in-law), Bordon Ross, Bill Paradis, and Ken. Davis. Interment was in Schreiber cemetery. Mrs. Gauthier, nee Gwynneth Evelyn Milks, was 52 years old and born and raised in Schreiber. She is survived by her husband, a daughter, Leslie, Mrs. Barry Penner, of Red Lake, a son, Leonard, of Crofton, B. C. and two grandchildren, a sister Mrs. David Graham and brother Lesley Milks, of Thunder Bay. Mrs. Gauthier and her husband were married in Ottawa in 1943 while he was still in the Canadian Navy. Following his discharge, and after he'd attended university, they lived in the Lakehead, Schreiber, Terrace Bay, and Red Rock, from the last going in 1966 to Crofton. Among those attending the service from out of town were her husband, Mr. and Mrs, Barry Penner, Red Lake, Mr. and Mrs. David Graham, Mr. and Mrs. Lesley Milks, Mrs. Barbara Petty, and Ray Duffy of Thunder Bay, Stewart Fraser, Ottawa, Mr. and Mrs. 'Chick' Mahoney, Mr. and Mrs. R, Harvey, and Mr. and Mrs. MacDonald, Red. Rock. Ld CENOTAPH SERVICE James Crook was parade marshal for the Remembr- rance Day service at the cenotaph in Schreiber with twenty-nine members of Branch 109 Royal Canadian Legion marching. Twenty wreaths were laid by various business firms and other organizations, with three being personal remembrances - for Jim Richardon, Leslie Gerow, and G, A. Newton. Fred. Gould of Terrace Bay sounded the Last Post and Reveille. Rev. F. J. Meyer, of Holy Angel's Church, who gave the address spoke of the sacrifice of those who gave their lives that the world might live in peace and closed his address with the question as to what we in this present generation can do fo preserve the peace they bought so dearly. LEGION BANQUET Borden Ross, was M, C. for the annual Legion banquet attended by 100. Mrs. Ethel Smith accompanied the singing of 'O Canada' and 'God Save The Queen'. Grace was said by Reg. Bailey, the toast to the Queen given by Doug. Moore and Fallen Comrades toast was proposed by Barbara Ann McLaughlin, with Gerry Nicol toasting the Women's Auxiliary. cont'd on.page 14..... ® G.H.
