PAGE 14 TERRACE BAY NEWS NOVEMBER 15, 1972 Town Topics - Cont'd Mrs. O'Connor, who was born and married in Ross- port, has lived in Schreiber for 63 years. 50th WEDDING ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATED Relations and friends from Schreiber and Terrace Bay thronged the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Smart on November 3 to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Smart, nee Barbara Robertson, were married Leslie, Fife, Scotland. They came to Schreiber, with their family, in April 1949 and were soon involved in community projects. Mrs. Smart was one of the "creamers" -- the small committee who, by various small projects, succeeded eventually in having an artificial ice plant installed in the local arena. She still takes an active part in raising funds for other improvements in the rink and works in the ladies' auxiliary to the Royal Canadian Legion, Br. 109, now the 2nd vice president of the auxiliary. Mr, Smart, after his retirement from the Kimberley-Clark plant in Terrace Bay, has worked as a steward in the Legion in Schreiber. In addition to the many personal gifts received, Mrs. Jim Crook, on behalf of friends, presented a Money Tree to the Smarts. The wedding cake for the occasion was made by Miss Jean Hopper. Assisting Mrs. Smart in serving lunch were Mrs. Robert Hopper, her granddaughter, and Mrs. Jim ° Crook. Mr. and Mrs. Smart have one son, Bill, five grand children and three great grandchildren. SCHREIBER ARTS AND CRAFTS CLUB The Schreiber Arts and Crafts Club have begun their Winter Season, electing the following officers: Mrs. Bonnie Dye, Presidnet; Mrs. Betty St. Amand, secretary; Mrs. Lila Morrow, treasurer. Wendy Weaver, Barbara Ann McLaughlin, Gail Welbourne and Carol Forman were welcomed into membership. Mrs. Jeanette Gunter, president of the Terrace Bay auxiliary was welcomed as a guest. An appeal was received to support the International Peace Garden sport program, where sports facilities are being offered to young athletes of this region, supported by Northwestern Ontario branch of the Leg- ion's sports foundation. The Catholic Women's League sent their regrets in being unable to cater for the Veterans' banquet, due to other engagements, but the Anglican Church Women accepted the projecr. A donation was made to the Veterns' Christmas Tree in Winnipeg. Mrs. Barbara Smart reported that the regular social evenings on Sunday are being most successful and there are enough workers at the moment. Mrs. Georgina Davis, who presided, stated the Sat- urday kitchen is being operated but not regularly due to the shortage of help. The recent shuffleboard tournament was much enjoyed ed and the prizes split evenly between Terrace Bay and Schreiber.
