TERRACE BAY news i Vol. 15 No. 42 October 18, 1972 15¢ Per Copy NEW MUNICIPAL ELECTION PROCEDURES-1972 Elector Qualification: A person is entitled to be an elector (voter) in a municipality if he is not disqualified under this or any other Act as otherwise prohibited by law from voting in the election and if, at any time during the period of enumeration - September 5th to October 10th-, he is, (a) resident in such municipality; (b) a Canadian citizen or other British subject; and (c) of the full age of eighteen years. Nominations: : A candidate may be nominated for an office by the filing, during the period which candidates may be nominated, in the office of the clerk during his nor=- mal office hours of a nomination paper in prescribed form, which, (a) shall be signed by at least ten electors whose names are entered in the polling lists of electors entitled to vote in an election to such office; (b) shall state the name, occupation and ad- dress of the candidate in such manner as will identify him and the office for which he is nominated; and (c) shall state the name and address of each elector signing the nomination paper and, where the office for which the candidate is nominated is a member of a School Board, that such nominator is a public school elector or a separate school elector, as the fact is. COUNCIL QUOTES Township Council met in Chambers last Thursday evening with Reeve Cavanaugh, Councillors Bray, Sinotte and Kennedy present. The monthly Police report for September was given by Police Chief Dave Barnett. Police had visited St. Martin's Separate School during the month to discuss traffic, shoplifting and wilful dam- age. A good rapport between police and students was reported. Minutes of the last Council meeting were approv- ed. Correspondence included a letter from Perabrooke Council regarding the Federal and Provincial cen- sorship board and the inadequate job they are doing. The Pembrooke Council stated they felt the board should act or be replaced. The letter will be acknow- ledged and Terrace Bay Council stated they agreed in essence. A letter was received from Kimberly-Clark of Canada Limited, Toronto, regarding the renewal of the Recreation Centre lease which expires Decem~ ber 31st. Kimberly-Clark outlined the following proposals = a two year term lease, to commence January 1st, 1973 and end December 31st, 1974; Terrace Bay Council to supply its own heating after June Ist, 1973 and Kimberly-Clark to continue to pay taxes on the building until the expiry date of the lease. Council is concerned with the large capi- tal outlay involved in heating and at this point cannot comment further until cost estimates can be established. Continued page 2 ......
