HEALTH COUNCILS - cont'd Reeve William Springer expressed alarm about the possible increase in venereal disease and won- dered if this increase was affecting Thunder Bay. Dr. Pickersgill replied that the new reporting system was much more efficient that the previous one and might account for the increase in case numbers . However, there was no doubt that Venereal Disease presented a serious problem. Further discussion from the floor produced con- siderable comment on prescription costs and the quality of drugs. It was also agreed that at a later date discussions would be held with the local physicians in out-of- town areas to decide if there was a need for Family Planning information. At the conclusion of the meeting Reeve Springer expressed Marathon's pleasure in having the Board of Health meet in Marathon. LEGION MEETING - October 8th. At the General Meeting a progress report was made on the new building. The concrete pad has been poured; the sewer and water hook-up is com= pleted and the building should be up by the end of October. Once the shell of the building is up, all the members will be contacted to provide volunteer work to complete much of the inside work. At the same time all Legion members will be con= tacted to purchase shares or panels in order fo finance the new building. This manner has been chosen, rather than taking a large mortgage to finance this project. The shares are : 1 amounts of $500.00 and pay 6% per annum and the panels are in the amounts of $75.00 and pay 51/2% interest per annum. When the Legion canvasser contacts each member we hope they will help with financing and of course receive interest on their money until the principal amount is paid back. At the meeting, the draw was made for the "puppy" and A. Theriault was the lucky winner. W. Gebski sold the winning ticket. The Thanksgiving Hamper was won by Lorraine Huard. Thanks fo everyone who purchased tickets as the proceeds go towards the new building.
