In broad outline, this is what Workmen's Compensation in Ontario is all about. De- tails of the system and the methods by which the Board fulfills its responsib ilities in today's complex socio-economic environment will be discussed in future. ACCIDENT CAUSES CATTLE ROUND-UP The first (so it is believed) cattle round-up in Schreiber took place this week, organized by OPP Constable G. Lappworth assisted by Michael Reid, Dist. Health Inspector and a posse of interested citizens. The acci- dent was caused, apparently, on the Highway 17 which enters the town, when a second ve- hicle, due to confused signals, crashed into a cattle truck, 2.30% AVERAGE ANNUAL INTEREST TO MATURITY freeing some of the animals en route. Some of these, obeying tradition, "took to the hills' which surrounded the town, while others entered town streets ending up in a gulley which bisects the town. From then on it was anyone's game--with cops yielding lariats assisted by townsmen, until the exhausted O.P.P. and their helpers finally rounded up the errant cattle. Surveying their soited uniforms, the policemen agreed they would prefer chasing criminals to cattle ! FASTBALL BANQUET ENDS SEASON Barry Harper, president of the Schreiber Fastball League, was the M .C. at their annual presentation banquet, attended by some fifty members and guests. Penner, Keith At the head table with Mr., and Mrs. Harper were Rev. F. J. Meyer who offered the Grace, Mr. and Mrs. D. Mannisto, Mr. and Mrs. R.B. Spadoni, Mr. and Mrs. D. Neilon, Mr. and Mrs. Geoff. Birch, Mr. and Mrs. Y. Beauparlant, H. Pear- en and Leon Verdoni. Mr. Harper thanked his of- ficers for their support and in- troduced them: Leon Verdoni, first vice-president; Dick Man- nisto, second vice-president; Yvan Beauparlant, secretary- treasurer; H. Pearen, statisti- cian; Brian Webb, Camille Perras, Butch Speziale, directors and Mike Cosgrove, umpire in chief. 'The League, said Mr. Harper, is in a better condition, finan- cially, this season, due to their success in competitions." He paid special tribute to the sponsors of the teams - Royal Canadian Legion, Br. 109; Mayfair Hotel; Birch Motors and also to umpires who perform a difficult chore and for special efforts, Freddie McColeman and Doug Moore. Before the presentation of trophies, Mr. Harper drew a gale of laughter by wondering if this occasion should be re- named 'Mannisto Night' and hoped his increasing collection of 'jewellery' was well insured.
