PRICE Phone 825-3327 CACCAMO'S STORE UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT The biggest news in Schreiber recently was the change in ownership of the Caccamo grocery store, operated since 1919 by "Tony and Clara" Caccamo, in the best tradition of The Corner Store - where purchases and visiting were equally enjoyed by their customers. The new owners are Joe Caccamo, a son of the former proprietors, Jim and Joe Figliomeni, natives of Schreiber. Since he came to Schreiber, from White River, as a small boy and grew up here, Joe is considered as a native son. Joe has been associated with the business all his life, starting as a delivery boy - and many are the tales recalled with relish of his particular approach to this task - Jimmy has worked all his life for the Caccamo firm, and, with the exception of the time out to take a course in butchering, in the States, and brief stint with a Lakehead fini, Joe has also been associated with Caccamo's. So, with natural pride, they have re-named their store The Schreiber Food Market. The new owners are very aware of their responsi- bility in continuing the tradition of the store, of service, with a particular greeting to each customer even though they realize that seldom will they have the time to practice the wit and humour of 'Tony' Caccamo even during the years of rationing. For well-remembered by old customers was Tony's reaction one day when he had, practically, no meat to offer, but, on his gleaming mect counter, in solitary gran- deur rested a speckled trout, which he had caught the night before! Not for sale, of course, but certainly relieveing the frustration of customers at the scarcity of meat. And one small triumph of 'Tony and Clara' was that the Christmas turkey for the late C.D. Howe was a gift from their firm. Joe is the last of three brothers, Gino and Jack, the other two, left in the business, but Jim and Joe Figliomeni are also brothers. Jim has had all his training and experience with the Caccamo Firm while Joe started with it and but for a brief time away was happy to return to his hometown. In addition fo his business duties, Joe as a fown counsillor, contributed to his community, while Jim and Joe are active in club work. Photo below - Jim Figliomeni, Joe Caccamo and Joe Figliomeni.
