Vol. 15 No. 33 August 16, 1972 15¢ Per Copy SUMMERSOUNDS '72 SUCCESS IN TERRACE BAY Terrace Bay was certainly fortunate in having the opportunity to hear Summersounds '72 last Thursday evening. The auditorium was filled to capacity with people from age 5 to 75 as thirty-three students who were chosen from auditions held throughout the province put on a performance which could be called "highly professional "'. Numerous musical arrangements including country, folk, pop and even some original compositions by the students certainly illustrated the excellence with which these young musicians entertained. Under the direction of Walter Cavalieri, high school students between the ages of 13 and 21 have travelled approximately 3000 of a 45000 mile tour sponsored by the Provincial Government under the Opportunities for Youth Programme. "Fantastic", "Great", "Outstanding Performance" "Unbelievable", Truly Professional", Most Enjoy- able" were just some of the comments heard during intermission. Terrace Bay's own Lesli Thompson was among the thirty-three and should certainly be congratulated on her excellent performance. Lesli's performance included playing the organ and accompanying in vocal arrangements. We are more than proud of her talented abilities and fine representation of Terrace Bay. No pay is received, but the experience these students gather must be most rewarding. Everyone of these young students certainly des- erves congratulations and recognition of a job well NEW POLICE CHIEF FOR TERRACE BAY David Barnett, was recently appointed Police Chief of the Terrace Bay force, taking up his duties on August 1, 1972. Mr. Barnett was born in England, imigrating to Canada in 1959. He is married and has three children, Stephen 12; Susan 10; and Sandra 3. Mr. Barnett served with the Police Force in England, then lived in Winnipeg, on coming to Canada and spent four years in Marathon, prior to taking up his duties here. He is an Identification Officer, specializing in photography and finger printing. We would like to take this opportunity to welcome Mr. Barnett and his family to Terrace Bay. NEW BUILDING FOR ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION done. The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 223, Terrace Bay, are going ahead with their plans to build a modern new structure near the intersection of Fort Garry Road and Highway 17. The land has been cleared on the new site, and Sillman Construction Co. have been authorized to construct the 50 x 80 steel frame building. The proposed hall will contain a banquet room and lounge facilities, plus hopefully a modernized continued page 2
