Chocolate Bar", donated by Joe Commis so of Costa's Foodateria, to the Association for the Mentally Retarded, was drawn for on June 17, the day before Father's Day in Costa's Store. Mrs. May Caldwell drew the winning ticket. The winner was Gordon Waldbauer, recently on the Terrace Bay Police Force, and having just moved away to Regina, Sask. Proceeds from the raffle, $50.00 will be used to help defray the cost of a trip to Thunder Bay, where the students from the District school for the Retarded will participate in the Regional Track and Field Day. Mrs. Shirley Brown of Schreiber convened this event, assisted by the ticket sellers, Gladys Hamil- ton, Marg Santerre and Addie Beaulieu. Pictured next column ... The Ontario-based Canadian automobile industry reached a record level of 1,369,638 cars and trucks manufactured during 1971, according to the annual report of the Ministry of Industry and Tourism. John Ruzyski son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Ruzyski made the trip around the Circle Route, but he did it with a difference. He rode a bicycle - nota 10 speed - just a plain bike, and he went alone. It took John 10 days to make it, and he never slept in a bed at night = he slept in parks and beside the road. John headed for Sault Ste. Marie, over the border and south of Lake Superior on Highway 28. He passed through places that are familiar names to us up here = Marquette, Ishpeming, Ashland, Superior, Duluth, Thunder Bay and then home. He reports the weather was good most of the time and he enjoy- ed the trip very much. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Walker, with their daughter Carol and friend Carla, all of Neenah, Wisc., spent a week visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Bob Runnion. A surprise party was held in honour of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Dakin at their home on Saturday night June 24th in honour of their 25th Wedding Anniver- sary. The money tree was fashioned by Mrs. C. Gorman and assisted by Mrs. Sheila Dakin. The cake was decorated by Leon Theriault and the party was mainly family and close friends.
