A follow-up letter is to be sent to Hacquoil Con- struction Co. since no action has been taken on fencing their property. No dumping signs are to be posted in the vicinity of Langworthy Street. CONFERENCE REPORT PRESENTED At the June meeting of the Schreiber Women's In- stitute members answered the roll call with cards and stamps for the use of the social secretary. The penny auction on June 2nd was considered most successful and members were appreciative of both those who had worked and the generous public support Information was received regarding the area con- vention in Kenora on Sept. 21, and 22nd. This was filed to be dealt with later. Mrs. Todesco, who presided, read an interesting letter from Mrs. W.R. Black of Thunder Bay telling of the early life of her mother, Mrs. Robert Smart, who was the first kindergarten teacher in Schreiber - receiving her training in her native Scotland - and, also the first president of the Women's Institute in Schreiber. Mrs. Todesco also displayed hankerchief and towels she had received from a pen pal in New Zea- land. New program books are to be compiled by the executive. The lovely cushion top, made by Mrs. Peter Dzioba for the Women's Institute will be displayed at the C.L.E. booth. A draw for a money jar will be held in September and tickets are now ready to sell during the summer recess. Mrs. Todesco gave an excellent report on the officers conference in Guelph which she attended, when the theme was "Officers Forsee". Mrs. Harvey Nobbitt, Ontario president of the F \W.l.O. presided over the 826 members who attended. Mrs. Fulton, National President of the F .W.l.O. stated that the aim for all branches is to enroll more members with at least 20 per cent increase, and, one way fo , accomplish this was to present a free membership for the first year. She also suggested more bus trips, visiting sick.and old people, exercising one's fran- chise during elections, appreciating our senior citi= zens for building the world which the present gener- ation enjoys, and making our lives and communities more attractive and useful . Dr. Watson from London, Ont., spoke on govern- ment control of doctors, venereal disease, and abor- tion. Group meetings with leader Mrs. Rumble were very informative. Mrs. Joe Campbell presented a detailed report of the district annual meeting in Nipigon which ten Schreiber members had attended. The joint picnic for all district W.l. members will be held in Centennial Park on July 6th. The draw prize for the meeting was won by Mrs. Spanton. Lunch was served by Mrs. John Morris, Mrs. Ken Williamson and Mrs. Todesco. The September meeting will be attended by district officers and there will be a potluck supper. Photo below by I.
