The Charter was draped in memory of the late Mrs. Clara D'Arcy, longtime member of the Lodge who passed away May 21st. Mrs. Florence Fischer announced that Mr. Don Green had won the recent home bingo and the last game was now in progress. The draw for the knitted afghan will be held on June 24th following the reception. An invitation was received from Amethyst Rebekah Lodge to attend their initiation meeting on June 19. First nominations for elective officers were held. A potluck supper, beginning at 6:30 p.m. on June 28 will preceed the last meeting when the highlight will be presentation of Veterans' jewels. Following the meeting penny auction was played and a social hour enjoyed. ANNUAL ARTS AND CRAFTS SHOW The bright new auditorium of the public school in Schreiber provided a perfect background for the more than fifty paintings on display at the annual Arts and Crafts Show of the local clubs. Several techniques were used, such as pointalism, brush and Palette knife shown in oils, acrylics and oil pastels. Among the many craft exhibits were leather work, lamp making, hooked rugs, quilting, bead work, plastics and others. Attracting much atten- tion was a lamp made of two calenders, the one inverted, and clocks made of fry pans. Mrs. Alice Sparkes, leader of the Art Club and Mrs. Bonnie Dye, teacher of the Crafts club re- ceived many compliments on their groups' work. The two clubs will recess until Fall and anyone wishing to join may contact any member for further information. LEGION AUXILIARY 25TH ANNIVERSARY Over 100 attended the 25th Anniversary dinner of the ladies auxiliary to the Schreiber Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 109. Silver flowers flanked by silver candles centred the head table where Mrs. Georgina Davis, auxili- ary president, was M.C. Grace was said by Mrs. Jean Crook and Mrs. Barbara Smart proposed the toast to the Queen. Mrs. Davis introduced the guests at the head table - Charter Members, Mrs. Peggy Small, Mrs. Victoria Winters and Mrs. Beth Macadam; Mrs. Doris Vallant, first vice president, Manitoba and North- western Ont Council; past presidents of the auxiliary=- Bea McCuaig, 1958-63; Lou McColeman 1960; Earline Johnson, 1962; Ruth Hiller, 1964; Emerald Paradis, 1968; Bobbie Winters 1967-70; then, the present executive, Jean Crook, first vice president; Barbara Smart, 2nd vice president; Pat Moore, treas- urer; Earline Johnson, secretary; Chris Morris, war- den; Jerry Nicol, president of the Legion and his officers - Doug Moore, first vice president; Barbara Ann Mclaughlin, 2nd vice president; Larry Bourke, secretary-treasurer. Also welcomed were Jeannette and David Gunter, Aldea and George Churney, Terrace Bay, Evelyn and Norm Daniels and Mike and Marg Campbell, Marathon. Mrs. Davis also paid tribute to two members for their unfailing support through many years, now residents of Pinewood Court = Mrs. Jessie Macadam and Mrs. Annie LeBlanc. Mrs. Vallant, bringing greetings from the Provin- cial council, said it was a pleasure to meet old friends on such a happy occasion. More recognition she said, is being given to Northwestern Ontario's pride in its heritage, prestige and the manner in which if fulfills obligations to its veterans, commun- ities and particularly in recent years, the interest taken in youth. Jeannette Gunter, president of Terrace Bay auxiliary, presented a gift, recalling many other happy get-togethers in the Legion when she and her husband resided in Schreiber. G .A. Nicol, legion president, commended the auxiliary for its fund-raising ability and support of legion projects. Evelyn Daniels, president Marathon auxiliary, offered their congratulations and presented a gift. The birthday cake was made by Mrs. Cecile Bedard and was cut by Mrs. Davis and Mrs. Vallant. Bea McCuaig and Beth Macadam spoke of their pleasure in working with and for the Legion. Allan Bourk thanked the members for his invitation to the banquet. Doug Moore called for a round of applause for the auxiliary. Mrs. Davis presented Mrs. Vallant with a gift, G. A. Nicol proposed a toast to the auxiliary and Mrs. Victoria Winters spoke about her happy association with the auxiliary since it was formed.
