PAGE 4 TERRACE BAY NEWS MAY 10, 1972 STORY BEHIND STAINED WINDOW REVIEWED With Mother's Day taking place early in May, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Community Church invited the members of the Junior Choir, under the direction of Mrs. McKague, to join in with them as they met in the Sanctuary of the Church on Monday evening, for the Worship service. The stained glass window, the focal point for the worship was "Suffer Little Children". Mrs. Pam Jones told the story behind the window, and explained that it had been donated to the Church back in 1961-62 when Mr. Sam Boyd, Sr. was the superintendant. At that time, the children of the Sunday school expressed a desire to help beautify the sanctuary, and each child brought a quarter, with the Sunday school supplying the remain- der and they installed this beautiful window. The Junior Choir led by Mrs. McKague sang three numbers. Mrs. A. McKechnie read a suitable poem, "A Tribute to Motherhood". The regular meeting was chaired by President, Mrs. G. Soughton, who welcomed all the members and the Junior choir, who were guests for the first part of the evening. Mrs. J. Ferrier read an amusing story on Mother's Day by Stephen Leacock. Mrs. H. Brooks exhibited the art of cake decorating and each junior choir member was allowed to decor- ate a cup cake and then take it home. During the business portion of the meeting, Mrs. Soughton thanked Mrs. Jones and Mrs. McKechnie for their worship service. She also thanked Mrs. Brooks for her artful display of cake decorating. Minutes and correspondence were read by setre- tary Mrs. J. Peaaen. Treasurer Mrs. J. Mercer gave her report. Correspondence included a thank you note from Mrs. Ginn. The Figure Skating made a request to have the auxiliary cater to their banquet on May 31st. This was accepted and Mrs. L. Harris will convene same. The secretary for the Association of the Mentally Retarded in Terrace Bay and Schreiber stated they would be placing fresh flowers on the Altar for Mother's Day Sunday, May 14th, which will signify the start of their Flowers of Hope campaign. A letter from the Canadian Mental Health associ- ation requested a donation to carry on their import- ant work. This request was granted. A motion was passed that all accounts be paid. Mrs. R. Stevens sent a report that the rummage sale had been highly successful . Mrs. Brooks announced that the Canadian Bible Society would hold a meeting in the Church hall on May 17th, at 7:30 p.m. She hoped that there would be a good attendance. A cheque is fo be given to the society at that meeting. Ladies of the church have been chosen to take part in the Mother's Day service on May 14th. For the June meeting, a tour of the local Public Library has been planned. Ladies will meet at the Library at 8 p.m., and Librar- ian Mrs. E. Persson will show them around.
