Bolton JUNIOR MATHEMATICS CONTEST Students from Years 1, 2, 3, of both Schreiber and Terrace Bay Campuses recently took part in a Junior Mathematics Contest. This contest is sponsored by the University of Waterloo, and is written by the top mathematics students throughout Ontario, the Prairie provinces and B.C. The top mark at Lake Superior High School was obtained by Pat Heenan, a Year 3 student at Terrace Bay campus. Second and third places went to Jade Dukes and Richard Dietrich, respectively, both stu- dents at Schreiber Campus. Honourable mention also goes to Ron Chicoine of Schreiber Campus, and Don Ray and Jackie Richardson of Terrace Bay Campus. These six students have been invited to attend a ban- quet at Lakehead University on April 22. At that time pins will be awarded to Pat and Jade for scoring top marks in their respective campus. ART EXHIBIT Schreiber Campus hosted an Ontario Arts Council touring exhibit of the works of Reinhard Reitzenstein and Don Halstead. It is a combination of two artists' very different approaches to their discipline. Halstead's wildlife studies represent samplings of his water colours, inks, oils, and etching prints done over a period of the last thirteen years. Reinhard is cureently involved in experimental forms of sculpture and also paints in acrylics. Most of his pieces are creative manipulations of materials he finds interesting at the time. The exhibition was on display in the school library Thursday and Friday, April 13 & 14. The artists were there to talk to the public about their work . During the mornings and afternoons, school classes, both elementary and secondary, were brought in fo view the show and to meet the artists. The next stop on their tour is Terrace Bay Campus. GYMNASTIC MEET Lake Superior High School Gymnastic Team travel- led to Manitouwadge on April 8. Lake Superior High School placed 4th out of the eight tems competing. Teams taking part were from Manitouwadge, Chapleau Nip-Rock, Lake Superior, Marathon, Wawa, Gerald- ton and Hornepayne. The Manitouwadge Teom placed first. The individual winners from Lake Superior High School were as follows: Judy Chopty, Ist, Sr. Girls Balance Beam; Joan Perrson, Ist, Sr. Girls Uneven Bars; Lorne Bourke, 1st, Sr. Boys Horizontal Bars; Shane Walsh, 1st, Jr. Boys Vaulting, 1st, Jr. Boys Free Calisthenics; Ron Chicoine, 2nd, Sr. Boys Vaulting, 3rd, Sr. Rings, 3rd, Sr. Parallel Bars; Mark Stokes, 2nd, Jr. Boys Vaulting, 2nd, Jr. Boys Free Calisthenics, .3rd, Jr. Boys Parallel Bars. Congratulations are extended to all the students who participated in the competition. MIXED CURLING PLAYOFFS The High Schood mixed curling playoff from the regular season schedule was between Mike Corrigan's rink and Mark Caccamo's rink, The Winners were Mike Corrigan's rink who consisted of Curt Desrosiers, second; Mike Corrigan, skip; Kathy Buckley, third; Bonnie McEwen, lead. Mike Caccamo's rink included Bev Boutilier, lead; Rick Hamilton, second; Linda Melnyk, third; Mark Caccamo, skip. The Terrace Bay Men's Club are providing minia- ture trophies for the winners. The Executive for the High School Curling Club are, President = Mark Caccamo; Vice-President - Mike Corrigan; Secretary - Brenda Chapman. @onvenors were Dick Baron, Tony Cvitkovich and John McEwen.
