(In view of the restrictions of building expansions it was decided to ask for approval of a conversion of room 9 Marathon High School into a Home Economics room, with Mr..Kelly to contact Mrs. Moloney, Department of Home Economics Consultant. Facilities for a conversion into an Industrial Arts are not available in the Marathon high school = Industrial Arts facilities should be included the public school building plan. And, should the conversion of room 9 be denied approval by the Department on grounds of insufficient space, a Home Economics General Room should also be "included in the Mara- thon Public school building plan. The formal recommendation was based on the fol- lowing points: (a) a definite demand as indicated by the particip- ation of girls in sewing and dressmaking classes over a period of two years in the Adult Education Program (b) The Terrace Bay Home Economics course would not be affected as there is no attendance by Mara- thon girls at the presently offered occupations course in Terrace Bay §*) The Home Economics teacher would replace one academic teacher by teaching Home Economics and two additional academic classes. (d) The costs for equipment and supplies are estimated not to exceed $5000 - with further study on the mat- ter required.
