TERRACE BAY NEWS VOL. 15 NO. 12 MARCH 23, 1972 15 ¢ PER COPY COUNCIL QUOTES Town Council met in regular session on Tuesday evening, with all present. Minutes were adopted as read. Correspondence included a letter from the Terrace Bay Curling Club, inviting Reeve Cavanaugh to throw the opening rock in the forthcoming bonspiel, start- ing April 6th, and to attend the banquet in conjunc- tion with the bonspiel . He was also invited, with Mrs. Cavanaugh to attend the annual banquet on April 29th. A thank you note was received from Mr. Alexander Phillips, Manager of the Northwestern Ontario Dev- elopment Council, for the flowers received at the time of his recent bereavement. The Terrace Bay Recreation Committee asked for a meeting with Council to present their proposed bud- get. A letter was sent to Don Laporte, Chairman of the Winter Carnival Committee, thanking him sincerely for the excellent winter carnival, and expressing the hope that the committee would remain active, with further plans for the following winter. The Terrace Bay Ski Club requested permission to canvas the town for sponsors for the Ski=A=Thon to be held on March 18th, to enable the club to keep their equipment in good repair for safety measure. The Thunder Bay District Municipal League will hold a convention in the Holiday Inn, Thunder Bay, on April 7th and 8th. Reeve Cavanaugh, Clerk W. Hanley, and Councillors R. Sinotte and V. Thompson will attend. The annual adjustment in cost of power for 1971 was received from the Hydro Electric Power Commis- sion. Guidelines were established for future Sparkle Contests. A report was received from Mrs. Pat Buck, on the recent Hospital Board Meeting. On behalf of the Terrace Bay Utilities, Ontario Hydro will be initiating a rate study. Approval was received from the Cemetery Board of the Department of Financial and Commercial Affairs, for the enlargement of the cemetery. Council adopted a resolution passed by the Board of Management of Pinewood Court, Home for the Aged, requesting the government to give prompt ap- proval for the expansion of Pinewood Court. This resolution received the endorsement of Council . Personnel will be looking into the possibility of capital grants for the wading pool facilities. The annual Road Maintenance program was submi- tted to the Department of Transportation and Com- munication for subsidy purposes. Accounts passed for payment were as follows: Township - 108,085.28; Hydro - 16,576.84; Library - 1,096.99; Recreation Committee - 6,428.91. The Police report contained the following: - 2 persons ordered out of town, having no license to sell. The Public School was entered during the night, but no apparent damage done. Ten dollars taken from the Coin Laundry. 1 prisoner escorted to the Dist- rict jail in Thunder Bay. An investigation is under- way of tools taken from a half ton truck at the Can- adian Legion. b-person found and charged with op- erating a snow machine after midnight on Lakeview Drive. Investigation of theft of a fire extinguisher taken from the Terrace Bay Motor Hotel, valued at 96.00. 2 persons apprehended with same, and ( continued on page 2)
