TERRACE BAY NEWS VOL. 15 NO. 11 MARCH 16, 1972 15 ¢ PERCOPY NEW YEARS BABY Terrace Bay's First Baby of 1972, Denis Joseph Theriault, born February 14th, é pounds, 4 ounces; son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray: Theriault is pictured below with his mother. BEG RED MACHINE VICTORIOUS It is no effort for a team to know it is number one. But it does require a great deal of hard work to con- 'vince everyone else. The Big Red Machine was faced with this delemma last weekend. On March 5, Manitouwadge defeated the local midgets 6-2 in the opening game of a three game series. It was a tough loss for our boys aft er having defeated Schreiber two straight in the semi-finals. With its back against the wall and determined to rectify the situation, Big Red and over sixty of its most ardent supporters crowded into a bus on Satur- day and rolled into Manitouwadge. Our fans livened up their arena with posters, horns and a lot of cheer- ing to urge on their team. By the end of the first per- iod, neither team had scored and the end of the sec- ond revealed a score of 3-1 for us. It was imperative that Big Red skate hard in the fin- al period and play sound defensive hockey. This became more critical when the home team pulled to within one goal of Terrace. However the Machine did what it went to do and the final score was 5-2, with gdals by Pat Heenan, Dale Randa, Ed Zwaresh and two by Ricky Hamilton. With the sweet taste of victory still in their mouths, another fantastic home crowd greeted the boys on Sunday . After being down one goal for a few minutes, The Big Red Machine countered with two goals, both from the stick of Mark Dashkewytch. In the second period, Manitouwadge showed that they were still a big threat by scoring two goals to take a 3-1 lead. In the dressing room before the third period, coach Kruger kept muttering that he should have gone into a less nerve-wracking job. After spilling half a cup of coffee and smoking several cigarettes he cried, "Go eat 'em raw." Terrace evened the score witha goal by Ed Zwaresh and forced an over-time period. When neither team scored, another over-time period was required, this one sudden-death. Mark Dashkewytch picked up the rebound of Ed Zwaresh's blistering slap- shot (continued on page 7)
