PAGE 12 _ SCHREIBER WOMEN'S INSTITUTE Mrs. Joe Campbell presided for the Women's | nst- itute February meeting, in the absence of Mrs. John Morris, due to illness. Fifteen members were present. Mrs. Wesley Clemens tentatively agreed to attend the officers' conference being held in Gueiph Univ- ersity May 2 - 3 - 4th. The editor of the Institute magazine wrote that where they had formerly received news from a clip- ping service, about Institute affairs, this firm was now out of business. And from now on they must dep- end on the various branches sending in bulletins, and urged that these be sent promptly when the event oc- currs. The Mental Health Association sent a request for a donation and mentioned the number of pamphlets they are happy to send on problems which are frequently linked with mental illness. Mrs. Ken Williamson reported sending three cards, for various occasions and two rosebowls, to sick mem- bers. It was agreed to hold a bake sale at the close of the March meeting. The minutes of the last meeting and the treasurer's report were adopted as read by Mrs. We sley Clemens and Mrs. Fred Harness. Mrs. J.D. Bryson was pianist for the meeting. The door prize was won by Mrs. T. Spanton. Fol- lowing the meeting Mrs. Charles Peltier and her dau- ghter Carrie Lynn, Schreiber's New Year baby, Mrs. A.T. Elliott, the baby's grandmother, and Reeve F.V Harness were welcomed as guests. Mrs. Campbell presented the many lovely gifts from the W.l. members and those of the local business firms. Reeve Harness presented the silver cup which is given by the township of Schreiber, engraved with the baby's name and the date. Mr. Harness complimented Mrs. Peltier, and warm- ly thanked the Women's Institute who since the trad- ition of presenting the cup, have always arranged the party . Mrs. Peltier had brought along her year - old daughter, nimbly walking about enjoying the party, and, with his usual wit, Mr. Harness added he real- ised he was a bit late, due to business appointment, but, seeing the child walking about, startled him for - he hadn't thought he was THAT late. The cake centering the tea table was made by Mrs. Campbell and decorated by Mrs. Ciemens. Mrs. D' Arcy McGuire won the lucky favor prize. KINETTES Thirteen former members were entertained by the Kinettes at their regular February meeting, held in Arlene Conley's home with Maureen Phillips presid- ing. The occasion marked the 25 anniversary of the club. It was agreed to cater for two meals for the Kinsmen when they have their annual bonspiel in Schreiber, : March 17 -18 = 19th. A gavel will be presented to the newly formed Nip-Rock Kinette club. Joyce Reid, Edith Cosgroves, Betty Anne Klassen, and Linda Figliomeni were appointed as a committee to decide on costumes fo be worn by members attending the convention in Thunder Bay in May when the theme will be 'Sunkin Treasures'. Arlene Conley displayed the gift she selected to be used dur ing the convention and Jackie Turner re- ported on cards sent for various occasions, and gift presented fo Schreiber's New Year baby. A coffee spoon with the club's crest was presented to Arlene who is leaving shortly for a new home in Thunder Bay. Diane Figliomeni and Mavis Godin reported on a recent bingo. Joyce Gordon was welcomed into the club and presented with her pin. Inez McCuaig on behalf of the former Kinettes presented a cheque to the club. It was recalled that the organization meeting was held in Inez" home with the following officers elect= ed - Bern Jacomb, president, Muriel Jergens, Vice President, Bea McCuaig, secretary, Joan Holland, treasurer, Inez McCuaig, bulletin editor.
