PAGE 5 {ERRACE BAY NEWS FEBRUARY 17, 1972 SENIOR LADIES CURLING PLAYD OWNS = FEBRUARY 20th - 23rd The Senior Ladies Northwestern curling playdowns will be held in the Terrace Bay Curling Club next week. The following rinks will be competing and the winner will represent the Northwestern District in the Ontario playdowns, at Sault Ste. Marie on March 5. In Zone #1 as yet there is no winner. The results will be declared Tuesday. In Zone #2, the winners are from Fort William, Skip Penny Phillips; Zone #4 winners = Marathon, skip June Gardner; Zone #7 Fort Francis, skip Myrtle Dahl; Zone #8 - Kenora, skip Grace Kozak. : On Sunday evening, February 20th, ice time will be available for the ladies to practise followed by a coffee hour. The first draw will be at 10:00 a.m.on Monday and the second draw at 2:30 p.m. On Tuesday the draws will be at 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. with a luncheon at the Curling Club. On Wednesday draws will be at 10:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. followed by a banquet at 6:30 p.m. at Terrace Bay Motor Hotel. We welcome the Senior Ladies to our community and wish them: good curling. RECREATION NEWS Red Cross Instructors Course at Thunder Bay The Recreation Office has just received word from the Canadian Red Cross office in Thunder Bay that an Instructors Course will be held from March 20th to 24th at the YM=-YWCA, Thunder Bay North. In add- ition to the above Swimming Course, a Requalifica- tion Course will be held for both Red Cross instruct- ors and Royal Life instructors on March 19th at the YM=-YWCA in Thunder Bay "P". If anyone is interested in obtaining more informat- ion or application forms, be sure to drop in to the Recreation Office. Opportunities for Youth - Special Meeting This coming Sunday, February 20th, a special meeting has been scheduled at the Terrace Bay Camp- us for 3:00 p.m. The area representative for the "Opportunities for Youth" programme, Jane Cruickshank, will be available to explain the pro- gramme as well as answer any questions pertaining to the " Opportunities for Youth" programme. As advertised in last week's News, the Recreation Office has information on this programme and anyone interested in obtaining this information may do so If you would like to be involved in the "Oppor- tunities for Youth" programme, be sure to attend this Sunday's meeting. North Shore Minor Hockey Action The 4 games which were originally scheduled to be played between Terrace Bay and Manitouwadge in Terrace Bay on January 16th are re-scheduled for this weekend as follows: ; Friday, February 18 = 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. - Major Pewees ~- 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. - Midgets Saturday, Feb. 19 - 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. - Minor Pewees - 11:30 to 1:00 p.m. = Bantams The dbove games are the last home games for the Terrace Bay team in the regular league schedule. Playoffs are scheduled to begin the weekend of Feb- ruary 26th. Ringette Games Cancelled * Because of the re- scheduled Minor Hockey games, the Ringette games which were originally scheduled for this Saturday morning will be cancelled Course instructor B. Singleton has tested the child- ren who registered for the programme, and with the exception of two children, all badges have been handed out. Anyone having questions or comments concerning this programme should call the office. Upholstery worshop start tomorrow. A reminder to thase who registered for the first Upholstery work = shop that the course will start at 1:00p.m. in the Art Room of the Recreation Centre on Monday, Feb. 21st. The Recreation office has now received its max- imum Upholstery registrations for the two workshops. The last session for the Junior Basketball programme will be held this Saturday at 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon in the High School Auditorium.
