FEBRUARY 17,1972 PAGE 15 Basketball News On February 9, 1972 the Bays' and Girls" Junior Basketball games were held at Marathon High School . Both games were close, with Marathon defeating the Lake Superior High School teams. The Marathon Girls won by a score of 25 = 18 with Darlene Fummerton and Donna McGrath earning 8 points and 6 points respectively. In the boys' game, Marathon won by a score of 37 - 33. ~The two teams were accompanied by their goaches Mr. A. Stevenson and Mrs. C. Hougeson . 3 The Boys' and Girls' Senior Basketball teams were again vitorious, with the Hawks defeating Marathon in a hard-fought contest. Playing in the Schreiber Campus gymnasium, the Golden Hawks defeated the Marathon Seniors by a score of 60 - 45. Tony Commisso and Bill Smilsky were top scorers with 18 points each. Jim Corrigan ended up with 12 points, also for the Hawks. Top scorer for Marathon was Joe Dettbarn with 17 points. Top rebounder for the Golden Hawks was Jim Corrigan with 21 rebounds, followed by Bill Smilsky with 16. In the Senior Girls' Basketball game which was held at Terrace Bay Campus, Lake Superior High School girls easily defeated the Marathon girls by a score of 53: - 19. M.S.S.5.A A, Play offs The NSSSAA Senior Basketball Playoffs will be held locally on February 29. The Boys' Championship games will be held in the Schreiber Campus, while the Girls' games will be held at Terrace Bay Campus. The games will begin at 12 noon, and the public is invited to attend. The Golden Hawks are presently the holders of the NSSSAA Championship trophy. Good luck in retaining it! ROSSPORT Funeral services for Mr. Edward Martin age 77 years of Gravel River, who passed away in Nipigon Hospital, Monday January 31st. were held in Ros- sport Friday afternoon at two o'clock from McNally funeral home Schreiber to Rossport Union Church with Rev.R. Nagus of Grace United Church of Nipigon officiating and Mrs. Doris Mcinnis as organist. ~~ Pallbearers were Romeo Bouchard, Pat Bolan, Albert Rouble, Wesley Miller, Charlie Davis, and Bob Rolly. Interment was in Rossport Union Cemetery.
