WORLD DAY OF PRAYER MARCH 3rd A most sincere vote of appreciation was given to Mrs. Nettie Thrower at the February meeting of the United Church Women for her more than year's serv- ice as their treasurer. The World Day of Prayer was announced as being on March 3rd this year in Holy Angels Roman Cath- - olic Church at 7:30 p.m. : A donation was made to the official church board. Information was received of the Presbyterial meeting being held Feb. 25-27 in Trinity United Church, Thunder Bay. There will be a first' at this meeting when Rainy River will also take part in'the confer- ence. Billets are offered to district members attend- ing. Mrs. Bern Whent, Mrs. June Dukes and Mrs. Lilyan Christie volunteered to act as a membership committee. : Mrs. Della Moore, card secretary reported send- ing over thirty cards for various occasions to citizens in the community which were all gratefully acknow- ledged. Mrs. Annie Niemi, sewing convener, reported making several sales from the store cupboards and that a quilt will shortly be ready for quilting. Mrs. Beth Macadam gave reports on the recent church board, stating Mr. and Mrs. Ray Dunn, missionaries, will be in Schreiber in June to give addresses. She also reported the resignation of the Rev. E.C. Prinselaar had been accepted with regret. The board has planned a penny auction for Feb. 16 in the church hall and a delicatessen sale is also planned with a tentative date in March. The allocation, for layette, and new or good used clothing was discussed the emphasis, it was noted, was for children's clothing. A bake sale was planned for Feb. 26th. A request was made by the ladies' auxiliary to the Canadian Legion, for prices on both a smorgsbord and| a turkey dinner, the occasion being their 25th anni- versary . Mrs. Beth Macadam and Mrs. Marguerite Gerow volunteered to prepare the communion service for February, March and April . Mrs. Winnie Clemens showed samples of cream and sugar sets, she had brought at various stores, and an order was placed. Mrs. Prinselaar offered to make an inventory of the kitchen cupboards and Mrs. Clemens agreed to assist her. A grateful acknowledgement was made of a dona- tion of dishes from Mrs. Jack Phillips. Mrs. Etta Gray, Mrs. Myra Holmes and Mrs. Marguerite Gerow will be hostesses for the March meeting. The devotional period was taken by Mrs. Clemens assisted by Mrs. Dukes. Mrs. Prinselaar presided for the meeting, with the minutes and treasurer's report, adopted as read by Mrs. Bern Whent and Mrs. Nettie Thrower. The regular meeting of the Schreiber Elementary Home and School Association was held Feb. 3rd. The grade seven class won the banner for the month. The students modeled the clothes they made. The cooking class made and served the lunch. The arts and crafts were on display. Donna Gellert gave a very interesting report on oul-door education. : The next meeting will be held March 2nd. CURLING CLUB BONSPIEL SUCCESSFUL The Schreiber Curling Club held a successful club bonspiel this past weekend under the guidance of bonspiel chairman Dominic Carmisin. There were ten rinks entered. Winning the first event was the Bill Stefurak rink with Myrna McCuaig as third, Ted Brown second and Brenda Harper lead. Runners up in the first event were Dan Secundiak skip, Larry Fraser third, Billie Anne Saainen second and Pat Cook lead. Second Event winners were the Edgar Ray rink with Kay Fraser third, Pat Halonen second and Cathy Foot lead. Runners up were Mike Cosgrove, Skip, Bob Nesbitt third, Edythe Cosgrove second and Mary Richardson lead. The first rink knocked out of play was the Barry Harper rink. Tough luck Barry but we know you readdly tried hard. The curlers are turning out in full force to help the club and with artificial ice in the offering we continued page 15
