LEGION 4TH ANNUAL SNOWMOBILE RACES On February 12th starting at 10:30 a.m. , the Terrace Bay Legion will hold snow machine races in conjunction with the Terrace Bay Winter Carnival week-end activities. These races operated by the Legion get bigger and better every year and are one of the highlights of snowmachining for local and district snowmobilers. There will be the cross country race and the track events as follows: - Cross Country Race First Prizes (2) = No Horsepower restrictions = $100. prize plus a portion of Entry fee; 10 h.p. and under - $50. prize; Second Prize - $50. plus a portion of Entry fee; Third Prize = $25. plus a portion of Entry fee. Track Events: = 1st Race, Ladies only - Ten laps on designated course; 2nd Race, Men and Ladies = Ten laps, 15 h.p. and under; 3rd Race Men and Ladies = Ten laps, 22 h.p. and under; 4th Race , Men and Ladies = Twenty laps, no horsepower restrictions. Entry fees are $10.00 for cross country race and $5.00 for each of the track events. No Dealer of Factory sponsored teams will be permitted. The cross country race will feature approximately 50 miles of the toughest terrain in Northwestern Ontario. So you snowmobilers get your machine tuned up for the big Legion Fourth Annual snow machine races. Entries will be accepted by Mr. J. Desaulnier, Box 146, Terrace Bay, Chairman of the cross coun- try race, and by Mrs. E. Boyd, Box 211, Chairman of the Track races. SKI CLUB NEWS An Open Meeting of the Ski Club was held on . Dec. 28th. The meeting was very well attended and those present enjoyed three exciting ski films including the classic "Ski the Outer Limits". President, Doug Whicker outlined the proposed program for the coming season and introduced the 1971-72 executive which is as follows: = Secretary, Mrs. L. McBride; Treasurer - M. Nicol; Chalet, J. Moore; Schreiber Representa- tive, C. Pyke; Publicity, Program and Training, C. Wise; Execs at large, R. Hopper, B. Rapke and P. Vanderkam. At the meeting, all skiers were urged to "Think Snow". This has finally paid off as we were able to open the hill on Saturday, Jan 8th. The hill will be open for afternoon skiing on Saturday and Sunday, January 15th and 16th. Night skiing is scheduled to begin on Wednesday January 19th from then on the usual skiing schedt will be observed = Wed. to Fri. nights = 7:30 to 10:00 p.m.; Sat. and Sun. afternoons - 1:30 to 5:00 p.m. : Watch the news and the club bulletin board fo! announcements concerning lessons and competi ti events.
