TERRACE BAY NEWS Vol. 15 No. 1 Serving The District January 6, 1972 COUNCIL QUOTES Terrace Bay Town Council met in the only regular session for December in council chambers on Tues- day evening. Correspondence included a reply from Premier William Davis regarding a telegram sent him by the Association of Mayors and Reeves, endorsed by Reeve Cavanaugh, about the ban on studded tires in Northern Ontario. Mr. Davis advised that a st udy determined by the Safety Council indicated studded tires are not as safe as standard fires. An extensive report on t he progress of North- western Ontario was received from Alexander Phillips, manager of the Northwestern Ontario Development Council. Doug Whicker, on behalf of the ski club, re= quest ed permission from council to hold a torchlight run and a huge bonfire, to be held at the ski hill in conjunction with the February Winter Carnival. Council gave approval, and the fire department will be advised of their decision. Dave Henderson of the Community Planning Board, advised he will be in Terrace Bay, early in January, to discuss zoning bylaws. A request was received from the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 223, Terrace Bay, to re-zone the existing uses relating to the present Legion property in order that they may proceed with their planned expansion. This request will be dealt with by council within the next month or six weeks. V.
