Now's your chance! And you may grow such a magnificent specimen that you'll get a prize for doing it. The grapevine has been rumbling for some time about events being scheduled for Terrace Bay's Winter Carnival to be held February 10-11-12 &13 1972. This announcement is naturally the first confirmed event because, (let's face it) it takes time to grow a beard. Sponsored by the Terrace Bay Fire Department which will donate three prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners, the contest will officially start on December 7th and entry fee will be only one dollar. Those interested are asked to contact any member of Terrace Bay Fire Department. Further details will be published in future issues of the News. NEW MEMBERS APPOINTED The McCausland Hospital Board of Governors held its monthly meeting on November 23, 1971, in the Terrace Bay Motor Hotel. Mr. J.A. Ferrier, Chairman, welcomed Mrs. Mae Buck and Mrs. Dorothy Rummery to the Board as new members appointed by the Municipalities of Terrace Bay and Schreiber respectively. COUNCIL QUOTES Terrace Bay Town Council met in regular session on Tuesday evening. The minutes were adopted as read. Correspondence included a letter from J.A. Ferrier, Mill Manager, Kimberly-Clark, stating that the Central Heating Plant will be operating as usual throughout 1972 and into 1973. The Knights of Columbus requested permission to sell tickets on a draw. Permission granted. The Thunder Bay Health Unit advised Council of the appointment of Dr. Jane Pickersgill as the Medical Officer of Health. The Ladies Auxiliary to Guides and Brownies re- quested permission to sell Licorice All Sorts on December 17th, permission granted. A telegram from Mayor E. Carter, Mayor of Kenora, asked Reeve Cavanaugh and the Council to endorse an amendment, to be sent to Premier W. Davis, regarding studded tires in this part of Ontario in the interest of safety, Mr. Cavanaugh endorsed the recommendation. The Department of Transportation and Commun- ication advised of a seminar to be held in the Airlanes Motel on November 25th and Clerk W. Hanley was appointed to attend. Terrace Bay, Schreiber, Marathon and Manitou- wadge accepted the decision of the Arbitrators regarding the apportionment of the 1969-70 levies proprosed by the Lake Superior Board of Education, and the apportionment of the 1971 levy.
