The main item on the agenda was a recent visit by Dr. J.C. Baldwin and Mr. A.D. Karapita of the Ontario Hospital Services Commission. In conjunc- tion with the recommendations of these two officials regarding our present hospital facility, the Board members reviewed possible alternatives. It was de- cided that a preliminary study of health care needs be conducted by the Hospital Administrator with the assistance of consultants from the Ontario Hospital Services Commission or private companies. This study will attempt to determine the number of hospital beds required and the distribution by type of service and will include statistical informa- tion on past utilization of hospital services, popula- tion breakdowns by age, sex, etc., medical referral patterns used at present and the specific needs of both communities. Board members also plan to visit other hospitals and primary health care centres to receive a first hand look at different types of facilities. As provided in the Hospital By-Laws, the Board passed a motion fo invite the Municipality of Terrace Bay and the Municipality of Schreiber to each appoint a representative to act as a Board Member (Ex Officio) on an annual basis. The two munici- palities will then be actively involved in the deter- mination of hospital policy and, in particular, the current planning regarding renovations to the exist- ing building and the possibility of additional new facilities. NEW HOSPITAL ADMINISTRATOR The McCausland Hospital Board of Governors is pleased to announce the appointment of Victor A. Mazzone as Hos- pital Administrator. Mr. Mazzone began his duties on October 4, 1971, upon comple- tion of the two-year Master's Degree Course in Hospital Administration at the University of Ottawa. continued page 9 .....
