A 071 O.P.P. REPORT - cont'd from page 12 ...... On August 2, 1971, Constable Bosley located a woman reported lost in Rainbow Falls Park. Three Schreiber youths reported missing August 6, returned home on August 7 after spending the night in the bush. Constable Wills recovered an auto reported stolen from Thunder Bay on August 7th and subject respon- sible was apprehended and turned over to the Thunde Bay Police to be dealt with. On August 9, four local youths were warned re- garding campers at Rainbow Falls Park by Constable Wills, following a complaint received from a Weston, Ontario resident camping there. A quantity of liquor was seized by Constable Wills from a local youth on August 9th, resulting in a charge of "Having" being laid. Subject summoned for court at a later date. Constable Tilbury and Bosley assisted a tourist who was injured at Steel River and escorted him to Thunder Bay Hospital for treatment. On August 12, 1971 Milton Winters reported the theft of articles from two boats docked near Hydro Hill on Lake Superior. Constable Tilbury is still investigating this occurrence. At 2:00 a.m., August 13, Constable Lapworth investigated a report of a missing person af Rainbow Falls Park and subsequently located the missing per- son at the base of the falls where she had fallen. Fortunately she was not seriously injured. Carl LeBlanc reported his car had been stolen from Schreiber on August 14th, and was located abandoned shortly after near Schreiber. Provincial Constable Wills investigated. On the traffic scene, Constable Bosley investigat- ed a two car collision near the Aguasabon River which resulted in approximately $1700. damage and one charge laid under the Highway Traffic Act on July 30th. On August 3, Constable Lapworth investigated a minor collision at Prairie River when a motorist drove off the road to avoid striking a deer. Damage was approximately $150. to the vehicle. Constable Tilbury investigated a one vehicle collision on Cavers Hill on August 10, that sent four Minnesota residents to hospital with injuries, none serious. Approximately $200. damage resulted On August 14, Constable Wills investigated a collision three miles east of Terrace Bay involving two vehicles and a moose. One person received TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE 13 minor injuries. The moose was killed and approxim- ately $1900. damage resulted. A hit and run collision was reported on August 14 and is being investigated by Constable Wills. Minor damages resulted. A-two car collision on Peary St., Schreiber on August 14th resulted in approximately $450. damage was investigated by Constable Tilbury. Three charges were laid as a result of this collision. Constable Lapworth is presently investigating an occurrence resulting in windows being broken at the Schreiber Public School on the evening of August 16th, 1971. On August 20th a report was received that per- son(s) had damaged two plate glass windows at Costa's Foodateria. Investigation revealed that large circular scratches were made on the window with a sharp metallic object. Investigation to date has failed to reveal the persons responsible. Three male subjects were apprehended by Wawa detachment after a theft of money from Caccamo's Ltd. thanks to an observant local resident on August 21st. The subjects have been returned to Schreiber and are presently being detained pending a court appearance. Investigation is being conducted by Constable Tilbury. On the traffic scene four occurrences were inves= tigated resulting in one person being injured and $1500. of damage to the vehicles involved. OF the four collisions investigated the most serious occurred on the sharp curve one half mile east of Schreiber. The investigation conducted by Consta- ble Wills on August 18 revealed a 1960 Volkswagon * owned and driven by Francois Courtian of Toronto failed to negotiate the curve, lost control and the vehicle rolled over on the highway. Mr. Courtian was admitted to Terrace Bay Hospital with a broken hip. This makes a total of six accidents at this location that have been reported this year, five of which involved local residents. A speed sign of 50 MPH has been erected just east of the curve and any speed in excess of this is taking an undue risk. Remember familiarity breeds contempt and it is im- possible to take a curve at a given speed on all occ- asions as road and traffic conditions are never the same.
