FOR SALE LEGION GOLF TOURNAMENT Some forty smiling goffers turned out Saturday for their sixth annual golf tournament and the sun equally smiled back in return making it a perfect day for friendly and jovial competition. Down- swingers, upswings, rotations, and whiffe, all these manipulators left big chances for errors and some witty remarks. "Ye Gads", Paul Coupal was overheard saying, as he clubbed four balls into the river = Oh well Paul, there's always next year. One of the novice lady golfers was asked to guess what her score would be at the end of 18 holes. "Oh that's simple", re- plied Betty, "Ten times eighteen makes a 180". Don't know whether she believes in the Law of Averages or the new math. From all reports, all had a terrific day. Tournament Chairman Charlie Koski shot a besy first round of 38. Nice going Charlie. The winners were as follows? = Low Net = Gordie Calder; Congratulations Gordie = Runner-up Low Net = Gus Mclnnes; Low Gross = Charlie Koski; Runner-up Low Gross = Howard Solly. Low Net - Ist nine = Ned West; Low Net = 2nd nine =D. Rafalant; Most Improved golfer = Clarence Mercier, and High Hole - Henry Duriez. GIRL GUIDE NEWS During the months of May and June, a guest speak- er was Constable Anders of the Schreiber O.P.P. who talked on Safety on the Roads, and care and safety of bicycles. Mr. Cleon Smith taught use of the Compass to six Second Class Guides. Mrs. Sharon Brown accompanied six girls to Marathon for a day of Patrol Leader Training. Brenda Cornfield and Rosalyn Calder planted flowers in the Guides Garden in Centennial Park. Guides is over for this summer, with just a few girls having to complete a little work on a wide variety of badges being worked on. The close of Guides was celebrated with a Pyjama party and one nights sleep out in the Community Church basement with Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Vanderkam, Miss Brown and Paulette Coupal as chaperones. continued page 9
