Mr. and Mrs. Gus Krause have their grandchildren Lisa and Deanna Krause of Thunder Bay visiting them while their mother is ill. Miss Edna McColeman of Marquette, Mich., is visiting Mr. and Mrs. Archie McColeman and Mr. and Mrs. Freddie McColeman. Mrs. George Legault of Montreal visited her par- ents, Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Bryson this week. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Gerow, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Gray and Miss Donna Dean Gray were in Toronto to attend the wedding of Miss Mary Ellen Gerow and Mr. Dennis Bouchie on June 12th. C.G.l.T. ANNUAL BANQUET The C.G.l.T. held their annual mother and daugh- ter banquet in St. Andrew's Church hall on June 7th with over forty attending. Janet Lengyel, president, introduced the head table guests = The Rev. and Mrs. E.C. Prinselaar, Mrs. W.R. Weaver and her daughter Billie, of White River, and Jim Hyder of the Drug Addiction Centre, Thunder Bay. Mrs. Prinselaar said Grace and the Toast fo the i: Queen was given by Clover Dukes. Linda Birch proposed the Toast to Mothers, with Mrs. Jack Richardson responding. Mrs. Bernice Whent, who has been supt. of the CGIT for sixteen years, presented Bibles to graduates Brenda Krystia, Billie Weaver, and Sharon Smith. Following the dinner Mr. Hyder showed film he had taken during the day of Schreiber at work and play, adults on the streets and children during recrea- tion periods at school . This was followed by discussions carried on by small groups, when the girls brought up various points on which they would like the mothers to change their opinion or attitude and the mothers spoke as frankly in return. Then a panel assessed the differences, discovering some with wide gaps, others but small issues. Sister Mary McGuire visited with Mr. and Mrs. $273.55 RAISED FOR SALVATION ARMY | Army by the Auxiliary to the Royal Canadian Legion, The sum of $273.55 was collected for the Salvation Branch 109. Mrs. Pat Moore, treasurer and convener of the project made the report at the June meeting. Miss Muriel Nesbitt was initiated into membership by Mrs. Georgina Davis, president. Mrs. Jean Crook, convener, reported the recent Penny Auction had been most successful . Several members contributed to the birthday fund. A special meeting will be held to plan the annual August Field Day. September lunch hostesses will be Mesdames Chris Morris, Inez McKevitt and Ethel Nesbitt. Mrs. Chris Dunham was warden and Mrs. Ethel Smit pianist for the meeting. Minutes and financial statements were approved as read by Mrs. Earline Johnson and Mrs. Pat Moore. A thank you note was sent to Mrs. Cecile Bedard who had made and donated the cake for the auxiliary birthday dinner. FUNERAL SERVICES HELD FOR L. HALONEN The funeral of the late Lauri Vilho Halonen, whose death occurred on June 4th was conducted in St. Andrew's United Church in Schreiber by the Rev. E. & C. Prinselaar, on June 7th. Mrs. George Lengyel w; organist and hymns chosen were "Abide With Me" an "The Lord's My Shepherd". The pall bearers were all grandsons of the decease Allan Holmes, Herbie Holmes, Dale Willoughby, Brad Halonen, John Halonen and Pat Halonen. Interment was in Schreiber cemetery. Mr. Halonen, who was 88 years old, was born in | Lapinlahti, Finland. He was predeceased by his wife's in 1953, by a son Eric in 1928 and two grandsons 8 Fred Willoughby in 1968 and Ernie Willoughby in 197 Mr. and Mrs. Halonen came to Canada from Fin- " land in 1912, living for a few months in Port Arthur and then coming to Schreiber where they remained. Mr. Halonen was the C .P.R. gardener until his retirement in 1951. His immediate survivors are three daughters = Tai (Mrs. H.V. Gibson, Thunder Bay); Saima (Mrs. E. Willoughby) and Lena (Mrs. Ed Holmes) both of Schreiber; three sons, John of Brooklin, Ontario; Peter of Ottawa and Lauri of Thunder Bay.
