e JUNE 16, 1971 _ TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE 11 TERRACE BAY HIGH SCHOOL AWARDS ASSEMBLY The Annual Terrace Bay High School Awards Assem- bly was held on Wednesday, June 9, 1971. Students who had participated in school sports and exira- curricular activities over the past year received activity tabs, crests, ribbons and other awards. These were presented by the Students Council Execu- tive to the basketball, volleyball, badminton, cur- ling, cheer-leading, track and field, cross-country, and golf teams. Tabs were also presented to the librarian assistants, and members of the Students Council . The boys of the physical education classes received their Canada Fitness Crest Awards. Winners of the gold crest were Clarence Yates and Rick Hamilton. A total of forty-five boys won silver crests whereas another fifty-five won bronze crests. For participation in a major team sport for two years the following students earned their sports letters: Geraldine Belliveau, Donna Chapman, Gail Simmer, Judy Falzetta, Katherine Gorman, Phyllis Turner, Louise Brooks, Cathy Graham, Joan Perrson, Charles Simmer, Jim Gerlach, Diane Lapenskie, Linda Lidkea, Danny Ferguson and Wendy McMillan. Special awards went to Cathy Melynk and Joe Dobush for being selected to attend the Ontario Athletic Leadership Camp this coming summer. Also honoured was Jim Gerlach who was selected to represent the school this summer in the Voyageur Program. Eleven members of the Outers Club receiv= ed their St. John Ambulance certificates for success- ful completion of the course in Emergency First Aid. Clarence Yates received the N.S5.5.5.A.A. Track and Field trophy for the Senior Boy's Champ- ionship af the N.S.S.S.A.A. Track and Field meet. Trophies for the boy Athlete and girl athlete of the year were also presented. This year's winners were Jim Corrigan and Gail Simmer. Congratulations is extended to both of them. At the end of the assembly Cathy Graham, next year's Students Council president introduced the ex- ecutive for next year. She presented the outgoing president, Larry Kusik with a golf gavel pin. Last of all, Larry Kusik made a special presentation to Mr. Rowsome to show all the students appreciation of his work that made T.B.H.S. the great school that it is. During the time that he was principal , Mr. Rowsome saw the school through many changes and all the while doing what was best for everyone concerned. As a token to remember T.B.H.S. the students presented Mr. Rowsome with a large photo- graph of the school set on a card with the names of all the students on the inside. It is hoped that Mr. Rowsome will enjoy his new home and new school * next year. - continued page 12 ......
