SCHREIBER COUNCIL Clean-up time for Schreiber residents was set for May 17-31, by the Municipal Council at their regular May meeting. The new fire truck is expected to arrive on or 1 about May 18th. Councillor R.B. Spadoni reported he has asked for new quotations on fire insurance for the arena. The council agreed to support the resolution of Leeds, Lanark and Grenville Department of Health Unit concerning inspection and control of sewage treatment inspections, wishing this fo remain in the control of the Department of Health. They also supported the resolution of Thunder Bay District Health Unit regarding: 1. inclusion of a section for members of the Board of Health. 2. section for Business Administrators on re-struc- ture of Ontario Health Association. . The lighting of the Schreiber playground was dis=- cussed and Reeve Harness and councillor Spadoni were named to meet with the Recreation committee on the matter. Council endorsed the resolution of the city of Sudbury in asking for the establishment of a medical school in Northern Ontario at Laurentian University | A list of equipment for hire was received from Ken Dooley, local contractor. Notice was received of an Ontario Municipal Board hearing to be held in Thunder Bay on May 26, ~ regarding the equalization report for apportionment of costs for the District Home for the Aged. The list of outstanding taxes was reviewed and _ due to the response to the latest appeal, it was de- cided to put outstanding ones on the attached list into the hands of the court for collection. Water accounts amounting to $176.55 and general accounts of $3,153.84 were passed for payment. Continued next column ..... Council expressed themselves as not in favour of a youth hostel in the town. Reeve Harness reported being approached by the Sea Cadets looking for quarters for meetings and it * was agreed to try fo find a building for the organi- zation. The idea of having garbage collecting in the town done by contract was discussed. Suggestions for an original sign for the town to be placed after the new lighting is installed were con- sidered. A no parking area in front of a local hotel should be better marked to avoid misunderstanding, council agreed. BAKE SALE TO BE HELD Mrs. G. Fischer presided for the regular May mee- ting of the Schreiber Elementary Home & School As- sociation which was held in Rossport, at their request. Parents had an opportunity to interview the teachers. prior to the meeting. The Secretary's and Treasurer's reports as presented by Mrs. H. Jartus and Mr. R. Grant were adopted as read. The Grade 8 graduation exercises were discussed and two parents were chosen for the planning commit- tee, namely: Mrs. Flora Bryson and Mrs. Millie Glad.~ Two students and two teachers would be chosen at school and they would plan the programme and bring the details to the June meeting. The Field Day and Play Day dates were set for. June 15th, weather permitting. It was decided to hold a Bake Sale in Chapples Store on Friday, May 21st at 2 p.m. All Public School parents will be contacted for baking or donation by the committee which consists of Mesdames F. Bryson, H. Jartus, D. Lengyel, M. Doig, and Mrs. Lark. Mrs. Bouchard offered to look after Rossport. Mrs. Margaret Averill, Special Education Consul - tant for Lake Superior Board of Education was the guest speaker for the evening. Her informal manner in talking to the parents as to how they could best work and play and talk to their children - right from babyhood to school age was most enthusiastically re- ceived. She stressed how important it is for the parents to read and talk to little children as the Mother parti- cularly is the first educator in a child's life.
