PLAN TOURNAMENT SchreiberWomen's Auxiliary to the Royal Canadian Legion accepted an invitation, at their regular May meeting, from the Terrace Bay Auxiliary, to a bowling tournament, on May 22nd. The contest will begin in the afternoon and carry on in the evening if necessary. Mrs. Gretchen Smith reported forty-six members now enrolled in the Auxiliary. Mrs. Cecile Bedard's offer to make and donate the birthday cake for May 15th was gratefully accept- ed. Mrs. Barbara Nesbitt reported sending cards and - purchasing a wreath for a recent funeral. Mrs. Georgina Davis, who presided for the meet- ing, thanked the members who attended both the service in the funeral home and the church.. Mrs. Iris Lidkea reported sending cigarettes to two veterans. May 8th was set as clean-up day in the club. Mrs. Pat Moore, treasurer, distributed canvas kits to those who will collect for the salvation army this month. A letter was read from Nipigon Auxiliary regretting they will be unable to attend the birthday party as they are catering to a local event on that day. Mrs. Rosemary Thorpe's application to transfer her membership fo Terrace Bay Auxiliary was approved. Mrs. Davis gave a most interesting report of the district meeting which she and Mrs. Jean Crook had a ttended in Nipigon. Mrs. Frank McKenna, Mrs. Inez McKevitt and Mrs. Moore were appointed hostesses for the June meeting. The minutes and treasurer's report, as read by Mrs. Earline Johnson and Mys. Pat Moore, were adopted. TOWN TOPICS Schreiber Legion, Branch 109, has received word of the results, at the district level, of the National Literary Contest sponsored by the Royal Canadian . Legion. Schreiber, in District 8, is proud to have three winners: Sylvia Speziale, first and Tana Morrow, second, in the Essay group; with Michael Anderson cecond in the Poem category - Noreen Renaud, of Nipigon was first. The Catholic Girls" club is having its Daffodil Tea on Sunday, May 16th in the parish centre. Rosemdry Spe ziale will convene the event and there will be live entertainment. Mrs. Raymond Potvin, with Stanley and Katherine of Windsor are visiting Mrs. Armella Comeau = Mrs. Potvin's mother. Mr. Potvin will rejoin his family later. Mr. and Mrs. M.J. McGrath are in Montreal, where Mr. McGrath is attending the General Committee of adjustment meeting on behalf of the Locomotive Engineers. Bill Randa drove the interior circle route last week, visiting in Nakina, Cochrane, and Chapleau and reports the road in good condition except for a few miles of gravel surface. Mr. and Mrs. Mervyn Perrault of Thunder Bay spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. John Power. Mrs. Norman McCuaig is visiting Mr. and Mrs. David McKay (Jeanne McCudaig) in Sioux Lookout. Mr. and Mrs. Carl LeBlanc, of Thunder Bay, visit- ed with Mr. and Mrs. Alex Krystia and other old friends over the weekend. Mrs. Bill Gerow is visiting her daughter Mary Ellen in Toronto. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Gray were in Winnipeg this week, visiting enroute home with Mrs. Bernice Jacomb, who has been in hospital since mid-December and their daughter Donna Dean, both in Thunder Bay. Visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Earl Glad are Mr. and Mrs. Edward Pearson, Mr. and Mrs. N.S. Jolicoeur and daughter Tracy, and Miss Dorothy Shadd all of Thunder Bay. BIBLE SOCIETY ELECTS EXECUTIVE The annual meeting of the Bible Society was held May 3rd in the United Church hall. Two films were shown "Dangerous Mission" and "Yuhan Pogun". Rev. E.C. Prinselaar opened the meeting with prayer and Mr. G. Beattie of the Bible Society spoke on the increased circulation of the Scripture due to a growing population and the need for funds for printing and translating into the language of 150 countries in the world. : Thirty million copies of "Good News for Modern Man" have been sold.
