MARCH 31, 1971 TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE 5 'BOARD MEETING The following are minutes of the leke Superior Board of Education meeting held at Manitouwadge High School, Saturday March 20, 1971. Mr, J.I. Jervis of Manitouwadge spoke on the Board and those in the audience upon acceptance of the prineiple of change. In accordance with Resolution No. 31/71 of Meeting No. 3/71, Resolution No. 29/71 was placed before the Trustees. The Resolution is repeated hereunder - Resolved That - the Schreiber High School and the Terrace Bay High School be reconstituted as one high school consist- ing of two campuses, effective I September, 1971, and with one Principal with duties to commence I August, 1971. At this point an amendment wes introduced. Resolved That - the motion on the floor concerning the emalgamation of the Schreiber and Terrace Bay High Schools be amended to read ... "effective I September, 1972' and "Principal with duties to commence I August, I972°%. : A recorded vote was taken - Trustees - For - M. Beacom, H. Coe, G, Fairservice (3); Against - Y. Butler, M. Dettharn, A. Cordon, C. Gorham, N. Kripalani, B, McDonald, H. Rutetzki, A. Speziale, R. Ungar, J. Warwick (I0). The amendment was defeated. . , Resolution No. 29/71 - A recorded vote was then taken upon the original Resolution No. 29/71 ; Trustees - For - Y, Butler, M. Dettbarn, A. Gordon, N., Kripslani, H. Rutetzki, R. Ungar, J. Werwick (7); Against - M. Beacom, H. Coe, G. Fairservice, C. Gorham, B. McDonald, A. Speziale.(6). As e result Reselution No. 29/7I was - Carried. It was resolved and carried that formal epproval be granted for the Planning Committee to proceed with the Schreiber Public School addition remaining within the approved cost of $2U5,748.00. Board approved the Minutes of Meeting No. I9 of the Advisory Committee to the Trainable Retarded, as presented. The Board approved the expenditures of February, IS7I, as listed in the disbursements at $22,825.02. The resignation of Mr. M. Chin, effective June 30, I97I was accepted with regret. A leave of absence without pay for the school year 1971/72 was granted Mr, G.R. Bott of Stevens Averme Public School, Marathon, as per salary agreement and Board Policy. BY-LAW Ne, IO - By-law No, IO to authorize the lake Superior Board of Education to borrow the sum of One Hundred Thousand Dollars ($100,000.00) from Bank of Montreal, to cover purchase of six teacherages as per schedule 'A' , re- ceived first, second and third reading and was duly enacted. After considering the report of the Committee on the proposal from the Township of Merathon to convert the Wilson Memorial Hospital into a Board Office, the Director of Education was directed to write to the Council of The Township of Marathon thanking them for the offer and ex- pressing the fact that unfortunately the Board cannot accept the offer, Trustee J, Warwick presented a written report upon the Third Area Board Meeting held in Dryden, Saturday, March 6, 1971. A further written report prepared by the Dryden Board of Education was received, The lake Superior Board of Educa- tion will proceed as indicated to prepare detail in support of a request to the Minister of Education to reconsider ex- penditure ceilings. A report on the stage at which the I972 budget has reach- ed was presented. The Budget Committee will meet at the Marethon High School on Wednesdsy, March 24th, I97I at 6:30 p.m. : A meeting of & Committee of the Whole Board is called for Mondey, March 29, I97I at 7:00 p.m. in the Marathon High School to consider budget priorities.
