MARCH 31, 1971 TERRACE BAY NEWS BAGE 19 WEEKLY REPORT FROM THE SCHRETBER - DETACHMENT OF THE ONTARIO PROVINCIAL POLICE Members of this detachment are at present investigating two break and enters which occurred during the past week, On March 22, & break & enter was discovered at the Foreman residence in Schreiber, Entry was gained by tearing a screen and raising e window. A quantity of liquor wes stolen as well as a sum of money. Investigation is being conducted by Const. Anderson. Const. Bosley was called to the residence of Harry Smith on Drummond St., Schreiber, March 25th to investigate an' 'attempted break and enter. The culprit removed a storm win- dow and in the process broke a pane in the window which is . believed to have foiled his attempt due to the noise. On March 24, a missing juvenile was reported to this of=- fice, various police agencies were advised of her absence along with a description of the subject, and clothing that was being worn at the time, She was located in Thunder Bay and returned home, Investigation was conducted by Constable Jones, One motor vehicle collision was reported during the past week and was investigated by Constable Lapworth, It occurred 3 miles west of Schreiber when a 1969 Dodge that was operated by Stephen Wager of Scarborough, went out of control ard struck 2 guide posts. No injuries to either the driver or the passenger, however $400.00 damage was inflicted to the front end of the vehicle. This detachment is at present experiencing a marked de- erease in the number of collisions in comparison to the same time in 1970. The motoring public is to be commended for this and it is hoped that this decrease will continue through the oar. During the past few weeks, on days it appeared that spring wag finally here, several bicycles were also noted on and along the streets. It would appear however, that not only are a few chains a 1ittle rusty but also a few memories as well. Several young people were observed riding on sidewalks and on the wrong side of the road, and during the evening travel- ling on the road minus lights and reflective material on fenders, Parents when taking their autemobiles out would meke certain they were mechanically fit before it was operated, ° but it is "ok" for junior to operate an unsafe bicycle. You can end up just as dead on an unsafe bicycle as you can in a, defective automobile. A safety program will be conducted in the elementary schools this spring with the emphasis on bicycles and bicycle safety, but a safety program will never work without the co- - operation of parents, interested civie officials and an . understanding public. The McCuaig Trophy was won by Ted Brown's rink, consisting of Ted Brown, skip; Lonnie Connelly, vice; Deborah Caccamo, third; and Jane Chopty, lead. : The Caccamo Trophy was won by Ray Pitkanen's rink, consisting of: Ray Pitkanen, skip; Joyce Cluett, vice; Glen Pitkanen, third; and Evelyn Lark, lead. CONFEDERATION COLLEGE VISITS SCHREIBER HIGH SCHOOL On April 6th and 7th, the Confederation College 'Caravan will be located outside Schreiber High School . The caravan will be open to interested stu=- dents and parents on both these days during the fol- lowing intervals: Tuesday, April 6th - 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 7th = 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Personnel from the college will be available during the above mentioned intervals to answer questions pertaining to their community college in Thunder Bay.
