PAGE 8 SPECIAL COMMITTEE REPORT The follewing is (in part) a report submitted by The leke Superior Board of Education on the "Special Committee Report" for the March 20th meeting Special Committee Report - History: -~ This Committee was established primarily as a result of the proposal by the Director eof Education for complete integration of the Schreiber and Terrace Bay High Schools as one admin- istrative unit, and because of the numberous requests to defer a decision on the matter. Terms of Reference: - The Committee was established by Board Resolution as a fact finding committee, and that no recommendations were to be mede. The Resolution read as follows: RESOLVED THAT: An Ad Hoe Committee consisting of the Director of Education es Chairman and a Trustee from each of the four Commun- ities as members be formed as a fact finding committee to investigate immediately the following areas: Methods to reduce costs in the operation of the school district under the control of The Lake Superior Board of Education, and, Methods to improve the co-operation of the Terrace Bay and Schreiber High Schools, including a re- view of present and projected programs; present and pro ject- ed administrative procedures, with particular attention be- ing made to the concept of a single school with two cam- puses; and, including a review of the apparent problems re- lating to Terrace Bay students in Grade XIII. This Committee would be encouraged to communicate with all interested parties in the performance of this study and to prepare a formal report of their findings for distri- bution to the Board by March I3th, so that the matter may be considered at the March 20th, Board meeting. Membership: E.J. Morgan, Director of Education, Chair- men; Mrs. G. Fairservice, Trustee; Mr. C, Gorham, Trus- tee; Mr, N. Kripalani, Trustee Mr. A. Speziale, Trustee. You may now qualify for the increased Guaranteed Income Supplement to your Old Age Security Pension. If you received a supplement in1970... you may qualify for increased payments after April 1st, 1971. At that time, the maximum combined Old Age Security pension and Guaranteed Income Supplement will be raised to $135.00 a month for a single person or a married person whose husband or wife is not a pensioner, and to $255.00 a month for a married couple who are both pensioners ($127.50 each). now! If you did not receive a supplement in 1970... you may now qualify for one as of ~ April 1st, 1971, because the amount of income you are allowed has been adjusted upwards. Nearly 300,000 more Canadians will benefit from this change. The new maximum Old Age Security pension and Guaranteed Income Supplement will be $135.00 a month for a single person and $255.00 a month for a married couple who are both pensioners ($127.50 each). You have already received an infor- mation booklet and an application form for the supplement. If you think you are eligible, and have not already completed and mailed the application form, you should do so now. The in- creased Guaranteed Income Supple- ment is not sent to you automatically. You must apply for it each year.
