McCAUSLAND BURSARY-SCHOLARSHIP Applications are invited from students wishing to be considered for the Dr. McCausland Bursary- Scholarship Award at the end of the present term. Eligibility of Students: Students must be residents of Terrace Bay, Schreiber or Rossport, Ontario and registered in full time attendance in Grade 12 or 13 in any accredited High School in Ontario, during the school year in which award is granted, or have attended full time during a previous school year if already in attendance at an institution of higher learning. Awards shall be restricted to deserving students of good character who continue their formal education in an institution of higher learning. Value of Award: The value of the award is based on the interest earned on the Principal invested and this should normally produce three hundred and fifty dollars ($350.00) per year. Payment of Award: The Dr. McCausland Bursory- Scholarship Award shall be paid during the fall term after receipt of certification, by the head or registering official of an eligible institution, that the student is enrolled. Should a student selected for an award fail to en- roll in an institution of higher learning under the conditions outlined above, then the award shall be forfeited. The award will be made available to another eligible student at the discretion of the Trustees. If there are no eligible students for the award in any school year, then the Trustees may consider granting the award to former students of Terrace Bay, Schreiber and Rossport who are already in attendance at an institute of higher learning and are in need of financial aid to continue their education. Continued on page 2 cesses Po MINIMUM WAGES 1971 Labour Minister, Gordon Carton issued a reminder to all employers that the general minimum wage in Ontario increases to $1.65 an hour on April 1. The increase places Ontario's minimum wage on the same level as the present federal minimum wage. The construction rate currently at $1.75 increases to $1.90. The general student rate will be $1.30. The minimum rate for the hotel, motel, tourist resort, restaurant and tavern industry will be $1.65. There will be one exception. Assistant bell captains, bellmen, doormen, waiters, bus boys and waitresses will receive the new minimum wage of $1.65 on October 1, 1971. The new rates are the second step in the minimum wage increases announced last year. At that time, the minimum hourly wage was raised from $1.30 to $1.50 starting last October with the second increase to $1.65 to become effective April 1. POSTAL CODE Canadians will get their first close look at the postal CODE this April Ist, starting in Ottawa. Jean-Pierre Cote, Minister responsible for the Post Office, announced the launch date at a press conference. The CODE will be a permanent part of every Canadian address by early 1974.
