PAGE 14 TERRACE BAY NEWS FEBRUARY 13,1971 SCHREIBER Father J.M. Cano, who came to Schreiber in July 1959, and celebrated his 25th year in the priesthood, in Schreiber, has been transferred to St. Margaret's Parish, Thunder Bay. While for Father Cano it will be a happy return to relatives and old friends at the Lakehead he will be missed in Schreiber where he soon learned to exchange quip for quip in daily meetings about town. He was the mainsorina in having the new church and rectory-parish centre built - a handsome exchan- ge for the church built in 1910 and the drafty, seedy rectory, whose vintage no one can quite recall. Father Cano took an active interest in community affairs, to the point where, with other notables, he pushed a wheelbarrow of cement on a regular stint, during the installation of the artificial ice plant in the arena. He was noted for his calls on all the sick in the community, whether in the local hospital or at the Lakehead and his anniversary in the priesthood was marked by a community banquet. His transfer to the Lakehead is effective February 23th. W.l. HONORS NEW YEAR'S BABY Mrs. Wesley Clemens, presiding for the February meeting of the Women's Institute, welcomed nine visitors.
