'Mrs. Manuel (Agnes) McCouan was honored on her 80th birthday on February 3rd, at a tea held by her daughters when friends and neighbours gathered to congratulate her on by gone years with some of the humorous incidents in the raising of families.- Mrs. Joe Molinsky of Vancouver is here visiting her sisters Mrs. David Nesbitt and Mrs. Mary Spakes and other relations. ; Linda Power and Anne Marie St. Jean have gone to White River to work for White River Airways. Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Clemens and Miss Edith Clemens spent the weekend in Dryden with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bourre. . Mr. and Mrs. Barry Harper are visiting in Toronto. Peter Halonen, native of Schreiber and former mem- ber of the Northern District, has been appointed Director of Personnel Practices at Ottawa. Toi Seppala, F.V. Harness, R.B. Spadoni, Cos Filane, L.R. McCuaig and Stan Hodgkiss are attend- ing the Progressive Conservative Convention in Toronto with George Martin and Joe Commisso as alternate delegates. Reeve F.V. Harness and a delegation from the local snowmachine club met and welcomed the Ambassador of the Canada Winter Games Harry Landa, when he went through Schreiber January 21st taking the torch to Saskatoon. Others from the Schreiber Kool Kats were Walter Klassen, Tom and Sandy Quinton and Shirley Major. Mr. Landa, a former Mayor of Saskatoon, was accompanied by Gord Bennett. In the open challenge bonspiel over the weekend the winning rinks were - First Event = Dom Carmesin, Edgar LeBlanc, Helen LeBlanc, Linda Timmerman; Runner up - Bill Stefurak, Maureen Phillips, Leo Rajotte, Myrna McCuaig; Second Event - Walter Zaporzan, Earline Johnson, Eirene Harness, Myrtle Zaporzan; Runner-up - Harold Gellert, Wannie Gellert, Kim Gellert, Bill Gellert. Comic trophies were awarded along with more' practical individual prizes. Burton Phillips and Alex Krystia were in charge of the very successful event with twenty rinks entered. The Min McCuaig trophy is being curled for this week in Schreiber with sixteen rinks entered skipped by Bryan Birch, Helen Dooley, Dominic Carmesin, H. Hamilton, Pat Conley, Bill Stefurak, Edgar Ray, Bill Wiznuk, Doug Moore, Len Crockford, Frank Walker, John Patterson, Burton Phillips, Geno Caccamo, Edna Cocks and Eric Handel. SKATE-A-THON TROPHIES PRESENTED Jim Armstrong, president of the minor hockey ass- ociation, Joe Caccamo, vice president, and Harvey Carmichael, chairman of the skate-a-thon in aid of the association presented some ninety trophies to young skaters who had successfully completed the course set. Mr. Carmichael expressed their appreci- ation in the surprising number who entered the event, the steady support of the fans encouraging them and the various people and associations who assist- ance had contributed so much to its success.
