TO THE RESIDENTS OF TERRACE BAY As most of you are aware, Regional Government in Ontario, has been for the past four years and still is being promoted by the Ontario Government and is in operation in many districts in Southern Ontario. The Municipalities of Northwestern Ontario have had numerous meetings during that time to evaluate the impact of such a change on our area and | might tell you that | have been much concerned that no- thing concrete enough to justify a meaningful report to you has come out of these meetings until just re- cently. However, as sometimes happens, it could be that this 'delay will prove fruitful in light of the recent unveiling by the Government of their Design for Development for Northwestern Ontario. At a Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association convention in January of this year, a Committee of Mayors and Reeves of strategic municipalities from Kenora to White River to be known as the North- western Ontario Municipal Development Steering Committee was set up and on which | was appointed to represent the communities of Schreiber, Marathon and Manitouwadge .- The purpose of this Committee is to obtain the feeling of all municipalities towards any change in the structure of municipal government in this part of Ontario and have briefs = Continued on page 9 ..
