PAGE 14 TERRACE BAY NEWS OCTOBER 15, 1970 MEMBERS HONOURED ON 45TH ANNIVERSARY Mrs. Agnes Bryson, Mrs. Lily Wilson of Schreiber, and Mrs. Florence Higgens and Mrs. Agnes Sully of Thunder Bay were honoured by Ruby Rebekah Lodge on the occasion of their 45th anniversary. The evening business meeting began with Mrs. Christine Morris, N.G. and Mrs. Beth Macadam, V.G. in the chairs. The vice-grand gave the Sick and Visiting report, saying a farewell gift had been presented to Mrs. Jessie Macadam. Mrs. Bern Whent gave a lengthy inventory of the Lodge cupboards. Many birthday and anniversary greetings were re- ceived and a telegram, from Mrs. Dorothea Wykes, of Toronto, one of the founders of Ruby Rebekah Lodge It was announced that installation of officers will take place on October 10th, the rites conducted by Mrs'. Rose Hadfield's installation team from Thunder Bay. A wreath was ordered from the Canadian Legion for Remembrance Day. A committee was formed to assist with the lunch for this social evening. Following the meeting the group adjourned to the lower hall for lunch and penny auction. Corsages and gifts were presented to the honoured guests. Mrs. Beth Macadam read the minutes of the first meeting of the Lodge, held in September 1925. The group were highly entertained by a picture brought by Mrs. Sully of the first degree team and officers, of the Lodge when comparing the gowns of those days with the styles worn now. During the evening Mrs. Connie Martin sand "How Great Thou Art" accompanied by Mrs. Agnes Bryson. Good wishes were sent to two other charter mem- bers unable to attend = Mrs. Eleanor Forester of Calgary and Bill Smith of Vancouver. FRIENDS HONOUR BRIDE-ELECT Miss Barbara Arnold, bride- elect of Oct. 10, was honored at a shower - tea arranged by friends in Schreiber Anglican Church Hall. Assisting in receiving were Mrs. J. Smart, her grandmoth- er and Mrs. R. Hopper, Terrace Bay, her fiance's mother. Mrs. Jim Crook was dining room hostess and pourers were Mrs. I. O'Neil and Mrs. R. Win- ters. Servitors were Mesdames Bill Smart, V. Thorpe and G. Lap- worth and Misses Jane Crook, Mary Jane Hopper, Pat Thorpe and Phyllis Wiznik. Replenishing were Mesdames Jack Winters, Gus Krause, Rus- sell Macadam, Jack Bryson, Earl Holmes and Phillip Birch. MRS. G. FISCHER ASSOCIATION HEAD Mrs. Cyril Pyke presided for the regular October meeting of Schreiber Public School Home and School Associatior when new officers were elected. They include, Mrs. Gerry Fischer, president; Mrs, Jack Bryson, vice - president; Mrs. Harry Jartus, secretary and Robert Grant, treasurer. Individual committee chair- men include, Mrs. Frank Fum- merton, membership; Mrs. D. H. Brown, grievance and Mrs. Earl Glad, social. Membership fee was set at $1. To encourage parents of the 4¢ children now attending the school from Rossport, it was decided to hold a meeting there, with Mrs. Charles Wilde in charge of making ments. Plans will be made te form a car pool to bring the Rossport parents to the meetings in Schreiber. Tom Quinton, vice-principal, introduced the staff to mem- bers of the association. Mrs. Rene Bedard has re- turned home after visiting her daughter, Lorraine, Windsor; her son, Harvey, Detroit; and other relatives in Toronto. Mr. and Mrs. Cyril Sparkes attended the wedding of their son, Dale in Thunder Bay. SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASSES ARRANGED A relatively - new approach, Contract Teaching is being tried this year in St. Andrew's United Shuch Sunday School, Schrei- Tr. Teachers, parents and chil- dren are being asked to accept the responsibility for specific teaching periods as follows, Oct. 4 - Nov. 29; Jan. 10 - March 28, May 2 - May 3C. Parents are under obligation to see their children attend classes regularly during the con- tract period and teachers will commit themselves to one teach- ing block at a time. Sunday school classes are ar- ranged as follows: Nursery (three years and younger), Kinder garten and Grade 1 (ages 4-6 years) -- 10 a.m. Primary boys and girls (Grades 2-3), junior boys and girls (Grades 4-5), junior boys and girls (Grade 6) and inter- mediate boys and girls (Grade 7) -- 11:15 a.m. The 85th anniversary service of the church will be held at 7 p.m. Oct. 18, followed by so- cial evening. Mrs. Gerald Banning who re- cently moved to a new home in Fort William was presented with a painting by a local artist, by neighbors and other friends.
