HORTICULTURAL NEWS Take one colourful home garden, multiply it several times over = and you have a beautiful community. Add these colourful communities to landscaped highways and the result is a more Beautiful Canada. In recent years the Ontario Horticultural Associa- tion has selected specific times to encourage com= munity improvement projects - the first seven days in May have been set aside as "Clean-up, Paint- up, Plant-up" week, and October as Bulb Planting Month. Individual citizens everywhere are being called upon to lend their co-operation to local programs aimed at improving and beautifying their areas. Like Charity, we must begin at home. When plans call for muititude of garden colors, there is no easier way to achieve this than by using continued next column ......... Spring flowering bulbs. Bulbs are among the easi- est of all plants to grow. All you do is dig a hole - six inches deep and six inches apart for tulips, daffodils, and hyacinths. Drop the bulb in, pointed end up and sit back waiting for Spring when the bulbs will burst forth into a glorious display of colour. Members of the Terrace Bay Horticultural Society may place orders for bulbs with their secretary, Mrs. Hiebert, by phoning 825-3897 before SEPTEMBER 28TH. VOLUNTEER HELP NEEDED Are you interested in working with the young girls of your town? The Terrace Bay Guides and Brownies would like to start their Fall meetings in September but are short of leaders again. This is a very worthwhile organization, where the girls learn many things like compass work, home nursing, child care as well as the camping hikes and many more interesting things in their programme. If you are 18 or over and would like to share your talents we would be very happy to hear from you. Experience is not necessary, just as long as you are interested. Uniforms and training will be supplied. For further information please call Mrs. Caron at 3210 or Mrs. Cvitkovich at 3307.
