LEGION GOLF TOURNAMENT On Saturday, August 15, the Terrace Bay Legion held their annual Golf Tournament. Sax Lundburg won the men's with a net score of 66. Maureen Hanley won the ladies with a net of 68. LETTER TO THE EDITOR | would like to apologize to Terrace Bay for the awful appearance manifested by dirt, litter and general untidyness in front of the restaurant which is being leased out by Terrace Bay Enterprises Ltd. I would like to assure the people who have com- plained of this regrettable situation that corrective steps were initiated sometime ago but because of my ill health, further steps have been delayed. The town's displeasure was made known to me through copies of letters to the restaurant. Terrace Bay, the Gem of the North Shore, is known as a beautiful and clean town and it is sad indeed, when someone is permitted to undermine this reputation. | am sure that immediate results could be accom- plished by imposing a stiff penalty, and this, | hope, the Town will do. J. Adamo NEW SAFETY EXAMINATION FOR HUNTERS New hunters in Ontario will face a new test this fall when they attempt to prove their right to carry firearms in the hunting field. As in previous seasons, a new hunter is not quali- fied to purchase his first hunting licence until he has passed both a written and a practical test given by the department of lands and forests. Thirty-seven golfers participated in this tournament. A social was held in the evening at the Legion Hall to wind up a very success- ful tournament. Prizes for the event will be awarded at an "awards night" to be held later this year. ER---1 STUFFING | A PiLLow A recent winner in Contest No. 4 of the Elmer's Summer Safety Contest was Jim Pytyck of Terrace Bay. Congratula- tions are extended to him! Reminder - Haste makes Waste! Beginning in September, a new written test will be given to examine in closer detail the candidate's knowledge of safe gun handling. The examination has been revised in an effort to prevent the unsafe practices which result in so many self-inflicted injuries. New hunters are advised to take the department-approved course in hunter safety as soon as possible if they wish to go hunting this fall. For youthful hopefuls, below the age of 20 years, this safety training is obligatory. For information, apply to the department office in Geraldton. Barn -- oa
