CREDIT UNION NEWS Once again we have come to what has been and is celebrated as Credit Union Day. Each year October 16th becomes more popular when we, as Credit Union Members, look back over our progress of the past year and for- ward to future developments and growth. The past year has been very gratifying indeed as we have almost doubled our membership, Our share capital and loans have been more than doubled, which proves that we have a good healthy Credit Union. But let's not be content to stop here as there is lots of room for future growth, As President of the Terrace Bay Commun- ity Credit Union, it gives me great pleasure to be able tc give this report to our members on Credit Union Day and may we long continue to grow, (W, T. Baillie - Pres.) The monthly meeting of the Board of Directors will be held on Friday night, Oct. 17th at the home of Al Stevens, 192 Laurier Ave. at 8:00 p.m. The following is a Credit Union Day message from the Prime Minister of Canada: "TI am glad of this opportunity on the occasion of Credit Unicn Day, to help bring to the attention of my fellow Canadians the worthwhile offorts of the many members of the Credit Union movement in Canada. By pooling their savings and using their combined resources to help meet the legitimate needs of their members for credit, they are not only improving their own stand- ard of living but strengthening the spirit of thrift and self help. I should like to extend to them, as they unite with Credit Union members in other countries in the celebration of Credit Union Day, my cordial greetings and good wishes for the continued success of their useful activities," Louis S, St. Laurent, Prime Minister. 0=0-0 I. Flater, Mrs, R. Scowen, Mrs, M. 0, Nelson, Mrs. S., Lundberg and Mrs. T. McInnes. Mrs. McInnes presented the plaque awarded annually for the best performance in Fire Drill, on behalf of the Home and School Association, to Mrs, Smith who accepted it on behalf of her own Grade I and Miss C., Quarrie's Grade I. Despite their extreme youth, Fire Drill is very importznt to these children, as they evinced by being in the field and in place in less that one minute. Congratulations, both Grades I! 0~-0~0 HUNTERS BEVARE Every year it's the same old story: "Hunter Shoots Self - Didn't Know it was Loaded", -"Pal Shoots Best Friend - Mistook Him for a Moose", - or even "Hunter Loaded, Mistakes Cow for Moose", 4t the root of all such headlines to a very measurable degree is carelessness with a pun. The wise hunter governs himself by a very strict set of rules. Paramount, of course, is the rule that one should never shoot at anything until the target is clearly recognized for what it is, not for what it might be. [nd safety catches on guns are there for a purpcse. Hunting can be so much fun but also 80 tragic. Sc hunters beware! 0-0-0 BUY CANADA SAVINGS BONDS Commencing next Monday, Longlac emp- loyees will be given the opportunity of purchasing by cash or payroll deduction, 7th Series Canada Savings Bonds, 'These bonds earn a better rate than ever before, 3.44%, and if an emergency arises they may be cashed at any time at any bank for full face value plus accrued interest.
